Motion carried. Citizens Oral Comments Richard Hurtado said he found a suitable table for the Memorial Hall priced at $650 from Frederick Furniture. Marcia Courbat said she was quoted$1700 from the Amish. Richard Hastings shared information from a catalog for tables starting at $375. John Mrzlak announced that Post 19 has already ordered and is donating a 12' x 3' oak table in Early American finish. Richard Hurtado revisited the issue of the branches that hang over the benches and the need to get these removed before they come down on the benches. He also shared quotes he received for the concrete steps out front and replacement doors at the main entry. Richard Hastings will locate a photograph of what the original wood doors looked like so a match, or near match can be attained. Mr. Hurtado suggested adding wood chips around the trees. Treasurer's Report Marcia Courbat, Treasurer, reported there were no bricks sales in September, though this is not unusual as it is "tax month". The brick fund is currently at$12,105.78. Ms. Courbat presented two bills for payment. Reimbursement to Richard Hastings in the amount of$75.00 for the purchase of parts to repair the safe. Mr. Hastings gave a brief description of why the part was needed. The other bill is from Black Hawk Memorial in the amount of$350 for the engraving of 14 bricks. These bricks were received and have been placed. Motion was made by Mr. McDonald, seconded by Mr. Miller, to reimburse Richard Hastings in the amount of$75, and to pay the invoice in the amount of$350 to Black Hawk Memorial for the engraving of 14 bricks. Ayes: Eight. Motion carried. Chairperson's Report Craig White, Chairperson, reported that the honor flight was very successful. Efforts for fundraising for future flights need to continue. Mr. White shared that on October 29th, there will be a large fund raising event held at the Five Sullivan Brothers Convention Center with 100 craft vendors and door prizes. This event is being put on by the Cedar Falls Amvet Rider's. Over 90 tables have already been sold at $50 each. Mr. White noted that the 2nd Annual Vietnam vigil will be held this weekend at Paramount Park, from Friday at 3:00 pm through Sunday at noon. Food and beverage will be provided by Mama Nix and Logan Hy-Vee. . September 28, 2016 Page 2 Page 2 Committee Reports Building, Grounds & Operations Richard Hastings, Building, Grounds & Operations Chairperson, asked the commission members if a decision has been made where to place the television. He reminded the group that the three areas which had been discussed were behind the show cabinets in the backroom, in the back stairwell, and above the door heading into the backroom. Mr. White noted that having it mounted high on the wall would help to avoid potential harm to the equipment. He stated that he will look into the possibility of having Best Buy donate time to get the TV set up. Education/Historical Randy Miller, Education/Historical Chairperson, reported that the Army reunion which was held at Memorial Hall on September 17th, went very well and that he had received positive responses by attendees. He did get an email from one attendee who indicated there was some disappointment with the Ramada Inn. Mr. White requested he forward the email to Nancy Higby, who will share it with the Mayor. Finance/Fundraising Marcia Courbat indicated that she has an appointment with the Credit Union to discuss the grant. Ms. Courbat shared that 14 bricks were placed in the ground today. She noted that the bricks around the fountain look very bad and need to be fixed. Ms. Courbat feels the job should be contracted out as it appears to be more than the commission members can do on their own. Mr. White suggested Richard Hastings make some calls to get someone out and give a quote, with the work to be done preferably by Veteran's Day. Artifacts Preservation Mel Wittwer reported that the trophy room is complete, and other projects are ongoing. Mr. Wittwer plans to get the Civil War ledger hung soon. Unfinished Business None. New Business None. With no further business before the commission, it was moved by Miller, seconded by J. Mrzlak that the meeting be adjourned at 5:53 p.m. Ayes: Eight. Motion carried.
