Moved by Miller, seconded by McMahon that the Minutes of July, 27, 2016, be approved. Ayes: Eight. Motion carried. Citizens Oral Comments None. Treasurer's Report Marcia Courbat, Treasurer, reported as of July 27, 2016, the brick fund has a balance of $12,055.78, which includes $250 in recent brick sales. Checks were given to Nancy Higby, Secretary, for deposit into the Brick fund. There were no bills this period. To date, a total of 3032 bricks have been sold. Ms. Courbat feels it would be a good time to consider spending some of the money and asked for suggestions. She would like to see the money used for a large conference table. Craig White recommended she call for pricing of a large 12' x 4' table. Dick Hastings suggested replacing the lights. Chairperson's Report Craig White, Chairperson, reported that the next two honor flights are fully funded and scheduled for the 13th and 27th of September. Efforts are currently underway to fund additional flights. He reported several sources of monies received, which will almost cover one honor flight next year, but said that additional fund raising is necessary. Committee Reports Building, Grounds & Operations Richard Hastings, Building, Grounds & Operations Chairperson, commented on the front steps and door being roped off this evening, and reiterated that his efforts to keep the building cool are ongoing. The ropes will come down after the meeting. He also reported that there will be an Army reunion held at Memorial Hall on September 17, 2016. Mr. Hastings received a scrapbook during the last Open House that he is presently reviewing. He isn't convinced it is worth keeping, as it is extremely brittle. Discussion took place regarding the continued deterioration of the building and other issues regarding the building and grounds. It was suggested that MidAmerican be contacted to conduct an energy audit. Nancy Higby will forward minutes to the Building Department for possible action. Richard Hurtado commented on some of the tree branches and their proximity to benches. Mr. White requested Nancy Higby have the City Forester call him to discuss the issue. August 24, 2016 Page 2 Page 2 Education/Historical Randy Miller, Education/Historical Chairperson, reported that enough donations have come in that 100 new poles are being prepared for placement. This should be completed next week. He has ordered 85 additional flags at a cost of$924, and some of the damaged flags have been taken down. Finance/Fundraising Marcia Courbat noted that she has not heard anything from the Credit Union regarding the grant. Ms. Courbat reported that there are currently 14 bricks that are ready to be put in the ground, and she has just received orders for 5 additional bricks. Marcia is planning to make another push for bricks for Veterans Day. Artifacts Preservation Mel Wittwer was absent. No Report. James Lentfer suggested that the Civil War ledger that is currently sitting upstairs be hung up for display. Unfinished Business None. New Business Randy Miller said there will be a fund raising event at both Fareway and HyVee this weekend. West High's ROTC is scheduled to help. Spots are still available, and he has the sign-up sheet with him if anyone wants to sign up after the meeting. With no further business before the commission, it was moved by Miller, seconded by McDonald that the meeting be adjourned at 5:42 p.m. Ayes: Eight. Motion carried.
