Motion carried. Citizens Oral Comments Richard Hurtado spoke briefly about the recent Honor Flight Dance and said he should know soon how much money was raised at the event. Treasurer's Report Marcia Courbat reported as of April 26, 2016, the brick fund has a balance of$11,645.58 which includes the purchase of 2 bricks on April 15. Ms. Courbat requested reimbursement to Craig White in the amount of$200, for advertising at the April 22, 2016 Honor flight event. Moved by McDonald, seconded by Ticknor, that reimbursement for advertisement at the Honor Flight event in the amount of$200, be approved for payment. Ayes: Ten. Motion carried. Chairperson's Report Craig White, Chairperson, reported he is still working on getting pins and certificates to present to those veterans taking the 1st honor flight. He also mentioned that this event will have the highest media attendance of any so far. Mr. White also shared that there are many fund raising events going on, some of which have brought in impressive levels of donations. Committee Reports Building, Grounds & Operations Dick Hastings reported that flowers have been ordered for Memorial Day, there is no estimated date of delivery yet. Plans continue on the future closet at the top of the stairs. Efforts are being made to get cost estimates to frame up and sheetrock the 4' wall that will eventually provide additional storage. Mr. Hastings also noted he located doors in the back hall area that should fit that area. Education/Historical Randy Miller noted that about a V2 dozen passers-by stopped in during the Open House and showed great interest in the building and the artifacts. Marcia Courbat added that attendance overall was about 30+people. No large groups, mostly singles and pairs, which made it difficult to be available to assist and share historical information. Ms. Courbat suggested having additional commission members available during Open Houses to help out. N. April 27, 2016 Page 2 Page 2 It was noted that there was some difficulty reading the wording in the display cases because the writing was too small. It was agreed that providing cards on the display cases with larger print would be a good idea. Finance/Fundraising Marcia Courbat reported that Memorial Hall stationery is now available. Ms. Courbat shared an informational letter she recently drafted, intended to solicit donations to support the purchase and placement of flags within the city. Mr. White suggested submitting it to the Courier as a letter to the Editor. Richard Hurtado will work with Marcia on the wording for how donations can be made, utilizing a Veridian account that is presently set up to support Veterans. Mike Mrzlak is working on getting pricing for new flags and improved poles, and possibly making necessary adjustment to add flags and banners to 4th Street. This information will be useful when seeking donations. Mr. Mrzlak also said that Main Street Waterloo suggested they may be able to provide help. Collections Manager/Registrar Mel Wittwer was impressed with the work that took place to prepare Memorial Hall for the Open House. Mr. Wittwer reported for the record, that April 11, 2016 was the last meeting of Sons of Union Veterans due to the inability to maintain quorum. He wishes to leave the Sons of Union Veterans Charter, Flag and Pole in the Trophy Room at Memorial Hall, including artifacts held in one drawer upstairs. He will take care to properly label it. Mr. Wittwer also mentioned that the By-Laws and the original numbering system that was used to manage artifacts early-on are currently being stored in the office. Unfinished Business Marcia Courbat reminded the group that the next Open House will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2016 from 10-3pm. Also, help is requested to lay bricks on Friday, April 29, 2016, at loam. New Business None. With no further business before the commission, it was moved by Ticknor, seconded by Mrzlak that the meeting be adjourned at 5:55 p.m. Ayes: Ten. Motion carried. Nancy Higby Administrative Secretary *Next meeting scheduled for May 25, 2016
