Ms. Courbat explained that four (4) bricks need to put in when the weather permits.
Marcia reported that an ad will be placed in the Courier regarding the 100 year anniversary of
Memorial Hall.
Chairperson's Report
Craig White, Chairperson, will present books by Mrs. Wilding, Memoirs of the Civil War, to the
commission next month.
Honor flights for 2015 have been lined up for May 5th and June 16th. Mr. White reported that the
cost is up $5,000 for the flight. The Annual Variety Show will be held to raise funds for the
honor flights on April 25th
Committee Reports
Building, Grounds & Operations—Richard Hastings reported that he is checking into getting
tubes for the flags upstairs. The need is for 4' x 3" with plastic ends, but so far he has only found
large tubes. He will be checking with the Historical Society in Des Moines to see if they might
have a few for the Hall.
Mr. Hastings feels the flags need plaques and explained that they cost approximately $100 each.
Education/Historical—Randall Miller said Memorial Hall us still waiting on Fiber Optics. The
City wants to run cables instead of having Wi-Fi.
Mr. Miller reported that the Cedar Valley Civil War Round Table will be purchasing 5 bricks
sometime in March, and that the group needs to meet soon for Memorial Day Celebration
planning.
January 28, 2015 Page 2
Finance/Fundraising—Marcia Courbat wants to apply to the Isle to get funds for the 100 Year
Celebration. $5,000 is the proposed request. Ms. Courbat has been writing information for a
pamphlet and said that Nancy Eckert has expressed an interest in helping out by using her
computer to type up the information. Mr. White said we need to apply soon, as he believes the
deadline is in March.
Mr. White felt we should tie in the 40th year anniversary of the end of the Vietnam conflict with
the 100 Year Celebration.
Ms. Courbat said we need to get the checkbook from Michael Dennis for flags & cannons. Mel
Wittwer will get it.
Collections Manager/Registrar—Chairperson Michael Dennis absent and Mr. Wittwer filling in
as his replacement. Mr. Wittwer questioned what the committee is for and whether it should be
reworded or possibly eliminated. There is currently approximately $600 dollars to be used.
Ms. Courbat explained the monies were received via grant from the Isle for use for flags for the
cemeteries.
Unfinished Business
