Members present: Chairperson Dan Evanson, Janet Longus, Willie Cody, Noel Thornsberry.
Members absent: Ed Hutchens, Larry Herzog.
Moved by Longus, seconded by Thornsberry that the Agenda, as proposed, be approved. Ayes:
Four. Absent: Hutchens, Herzog. Motion carried.
Moved by Longus, seconded by Cody that the Minutes of January 4, 2007, as proposed, be
approved. Ayes: Four. Absent: Hutchens, Herzog. Motion carried.
Also present: Doug Nix, Lee Grassley.
Citizens Oral Comments
The commission discussed a letter from Anthony Miller who expressed concerns about a billing
increase for Internet services provided by Mediacom Mr. Miller was concerned that customers
did not receive previous notification on their monthly billing.
Doug Nix, Area Manager for Mediacom Communications Corporation, explained that effective
March 1 Mediacom changed the rates on the digital box, modem and Internet services. Mr. Nix
noted that approximately 40 percent of customers have Internet services, and these services are
not regulated by the city. Chairperson Evanson will contact Mr. Miller.
Mr. Nix stated that putting a notice in the paper on rate increases is legal according to FCC
regulations, and no message was sent informing customers of the increase. Mr. Nix will check to
see if a bill message was sent on this increase. Mr. Nix noted the increase was nationwide.
Chairperson's Report
Chairperson Evanson reported that he and Janet Longus were members of the interview panel for
the Cable Production Assistant position. Six candidates were interviewed over two mornings.
Financial Report
Nancy Eckert, City Clerk, reported that Marc Cashman was appointed Cable Product Assistant
effective on April 2, 2007.
Ms. Eckert distributed copies of the Public Access Studio budget for the month ending March 31
and reviewed expenditures and revenues.
Ms. Eckert reviewed the FY08 Public Access budget, as approved by the city council.
Mr. Thornsberry questioned if other city facilities have capability of broadcasting live. It was
explained that at this time, City Hall is the only city facility with that capability.
Report from Mediacom
Doug Nix, Area Manager for Mediacom, distributed and reviewed February, March and April
2007 monthly reports. Commission members asked if the reports could be sent out with the
agenda packets so they have time to review before the meeting. Mr. Nix explained that the
reports are put together after the 21 S` of the month, and he will e-mail the reports to the City
Clerk so that they can be mailed with the agenda packet.
Moved by Thornsberry, seconded by Longus to request that Mediacom send the monthly reports
to Ms. Eckert so that they can be mailed with the packets. Ayes: Four. Absent: Hutchens,
Herzog. Motion carried.
