Moved by Krizek, seconded by Getty that the Agenda, as proposed, be approved. Ayes : Three . Motion carried. Moved by Krizek, seconded by Getty that the Minutes of August 4 , 1997, as proposed, be approved. Ayes : Three . Motion carried. Bids received for maintenance of radios and related equipment for the Police Department were reviewed. Bid proposals were sent to Radio Communications, Racom, and Iowa Radio. Radio Communications submitted a bid of $234 . 00 for monthly maintenance . Work not covered under the general maintenance agreement was bid individually. It was the recommendation of the Police Chief that the bid of Radio Communications be approved. Moved by Getty, seconded by Krizek that said recommendation be approved. Ayes : Three. Motion carried. The following bids received for roadway deicing salt were reviewed: Bidder Bid Amount Independent Salt Co. $29 .48/ton North American Salt Co. $31 . 64/ton Cargill, Inc. $32 . 39/ton Morton International, Inc. $38 .40/ton It was the recommendation of the Street Superintendent that the low bid from Independent Salt Company in the amount of $29 .48 per ton for an estimated quantity of 5, 000 tons be accepted. Moved by Getty, seconded by Krizek that said recommendation be approved. Ayes : Three. Motion carried. The request of the Administrative Director for authorization to replace roofs at Fire Station #1 living quarters, City Hall east quadrant, City Hall Annex North 1/2 and Street Department northwest 67 sq. was reviewed. The total estimated cost is $73 , 000 . Moved by Krizek, seconded by Getty that said request be approved. Ayes : Three. Motion carried. Bob Stevenson, Administrative Director, updated the committee on codes for the fire station boilers. In conjunction with the Energy Conservation Project (ECP) , many older boilers in city facilities have been replaced, scheduled for replacement or eliminated through radiant heat installations . There were several boilers identified with many years of useful life which do not fit the ECP guideline for replacement nor do they meet minimum state and federal boiler safety requirements due to the year of manufacture and installation. The State Boiler Inspectors have recently become more aggressive in enforcing state code compliance of all licensed boilers . This enforcement includes mandatory safety updates be performed on all non-compliant boilers . The Fire Station boilers were included in the request for proposals bid in March 1997 . The following bids were received: Bidder Bid Amount Waterloo Boiler $5, 119 . 00 Young Plumbing No Bid Plumb Tech No Bid It was the recommendation of Building Maintenance that the required CSD-1 updates as proposed by Waterloo Boiler Co. , Inc . at a cost of $5, 119 . 00 be accepted.
