Moved by Hurley, seconded by Getty that a travel request for Education Director, Adult Program Coordinator, Curator and JAG Designer to attend Frank Lloyd Wright Symposium in Indianapolis, Anderson and West Lafayette, Indiana on April 25-27, 2003, with costs not to exceed $1,224.00, be approved. Moved by Hurley, seconded by Getty that a travel request for ICT Foreman to attend Educational Classes at Hawkeye Community College on February 6 - April 10, 2003, with costs not to exceed $420.00, be approved. Ayes: Three. Motion carried. The request of the Superintendent of Traffic Operations for authorization to seek bids for installation of three new early warning sirens was reviewed. The sirens have been delivered and are ready to be installed. The following three sites have been acquired for the sirens: 3100 block of Logan Avenue, the northeast section of Prairie Grove Park and Hess Road near the Department of Transportation's tower. The estimated cost for installation of the three sirens is $9,000.00. Moved by Getty, seconded by Hurley that said request be approved. Ayes: Three. Motion carried. The request of the Superintendent of Traffic Operations for authorization to seek bids for green LEDs and green LED arrows was reviewed. MidAmerican Energy is again offering a rebate for replacing incandescent bulbs with LEDs, and the city has been pre-approved for the energy efficient rebate totaling $96,900.00. The cost of a green LED is between $120.00 to $160.00 depending on the manufacturer and distributor. We will be replacing 90 watt incandescent bulbs with 1531 green LEDs at an approximate cost of$183,720.00 and 168 green LED arrows at a cost of approximately $20,160.00. The energy savings will be an additional 25 percent along with the 50 percent savings on the red, don't walk and walk LEDs replaced in 2002.
