Moved by Getty, seconded by Jordan that the Minutes of December 15, 2003, as proposed, be approved. Ayes: Two. Absent: Hurley. Motion carried. The request of the Police Chief for authorization to purchase seventeen pair of protective eyeglasses and lenses at a total cost of$990.00 was reviewed. The protective eyewear is used by members of the Police Department's Tactical Unit. The seventeen officers assigned to this unit receive specialized training and are outfitted with specialized gear that allow them to safely perform their duties. The goggles presently used by the officers are 12 years old, the lenses are scratched and cracked and the elastic headbands are stretched and worn. The Police Tactical Unit has evaluated new generation protective eyewear and have chosen the Wiley X eyewear brand by Protective Optics Inc. Seventeen pair of these glasses at $45.00 each will cost $765.00. Replacement lenses for the glasses cost $225.00, bringing the total cost for the glasses and replacement lenses to $990.00. Moved by Getty, seconded by Jordan that the request of the Fire Chief for authorization to. perform body work to Engine 305 at a total cost of$1,725.00 be approved. Ayes: Two. Absent: Hurley. Motion carried. Moved by Getty, seconded by Jordan that the request of the Fire Chief for authorization to purchase green sense harness kit for the opticom program at a cost of$2,620.00 be approved. Ayes: Two. Absent: Hurley. Motion carried. The request of the Fire Chief to approve additional cost to repair Platform 311 for a total cost of $109,325.00 was reviewed. On August 25, 2003, the Finance Committee approved the repair of Platform 311 at a cost of $99,850.00. Additional work was performed on Platform 311, including repair to the pump, installation of remote system for ladder and replacement of low pressure switch, bringing the total cost to $109,325.00. The following bids received for a computer for Mayor-Elect Hurley were reviewed: Bidder Bid Amount Dell $1,490.00 Gateway $1,493.00 Iowa Business Machines $1,490.00 Jim Quint, Manager of Information Systems, reported that the screen included in the bid submitted by Iowa Business Machines was of a lesser quality than Dell's. Mr. Quint recommended that the bid from Dell in the amount of$1,490.00 be accepted. Moved by Getty, seconded by Jordan that said recommendation be approved. Ayes: Two. Absent: Hurley. Motion carried.
