Moved by Hurley, seconded by Getty that the Minutes of March 25, 2002, as proposed, be approved. Ayes: Three. Motion carried. The request of the Fire Chief for authorization to purchase a cascade system and replace a cylinder on the aerial at a total cost of$2,198.24 was reviewed. The cascade system will supply breathing air for fire scenes. The system will be put on backup truck 341. The cost for the system and the cylinder is $2,198.24. Moved by Getty, seconded by Hurley that said request be approved. Ayes: Three. Motion carried. Moved by Hurley, seconded by Getty that the request of the Fire Chief for authorization to purchase 250 smoke detectors at a cost of$1,500.00 using the Love Our Kids grant be approved. Ayes: Three. Motion carried. The request of the Superintendent of Central Garage for authorization to purchase two pickup trucks using the State bid and to seek bids for one snow control truck was reviewed. There are funds available in this year's Capital Equipment Program to purchase a street sweeper for the Street Department. In speaking with the Street Department, it was decided it would be more appropriate to purchase one snow control truck and two pickup trucks using the funds that are allocated for a street sweeper in this year's Capital Equipment Program, and possibly purchase a street sweeper next year. The cost for the pickup trucks using the State bid is $13,961.79 per truck. Moved by Getty, seconded by Hurley that said request be approved. Ayes: Three. Motion carried. Moved by Hurley, seconded by Getty that the travel request for a Police Officer to attend Highway Drug Investigations Course in Johnston, Iowa on May 14-16, 2002, with costs not to exceed $120.00, be approved. Moved by Getty, seconded by Hurley that a travel request for Police Lieutenant to attend Trends & Techniques in Internal Affairs School in Louisville Kentucky on May 19-24, 2002 with costs not to exceed $1,209.00, be approved. Moved by Hurley, seconded by Getty that a travel request for Mayor Rooff to attend Vision Iowa Board meeting in Des Moines, Iowa on April 10, 2002, with costs not to exceed $440.00, be approved. Moved by Getty, seconded by Hurley that the request of the Leisure Services Director for pre- authorization to expend $33,249.99 for turf chemicals and fertilizers for the golf courses be approved. Ayes: Three. Motion carried. Moved by Getty, seconded by Hurley that the request of the Leisure Services Director for pre- authorization to expend $5,716.00 to purchase herbicides and fertilizers for the city parks and baseball and softball diamonds be approved. Ayes: Three. Motion carried. Moved by Hurley, seconded by Getty that the request of the Superintendent of Traffic Operations for pre-authorization to expend $7,850.00 to purchase 990 gallons of yellow and 550 gallons of white water based paint to be used for striping of streets and parking lots, crosswalks, railroad crossings, curbs and handicap spaces be approved.
