Ayes: Three. Motion carried. Moved by Getty, seconded by Hurley that the Minutes of January 28, 2002, as proposed, be approved. Ayes: Three. Motion carried. Moved by Hurley, seconded by Getty that the request of the Fire Chief for authorization to make emergency repairs to Engine #305 at a cost of$1,819.10 be approved. Ayes: Three. Motion carried. The request of the.Fire Chief for authorization to seek bids to hire RN instructors to teak EMS classes was reviewed. The EMS classes are required for continuing education by the State. Changes in the required curriculum state formal classes are needed for at least 50 percent of certification. Under the new state guidelines, Waterloo Fire Rescue personnel that were used to teach classes will not receive formal continuing education credits for teaching as they did in the past. Hiring RNs as instructors provides a higher level of training, protects the city from the kick back law and minimizes the need to pay Fire Rescue personnel at time and a half rate. The estimated cost to hire RN instructors is $6,900.00. Moved by Hurley, seconded by Getty that said request be approved. Ayes: Three. Motion carried.
