Members present: Chairperson Krizek, Jordan, Gronen.
Moved by Gronen, seconded by Jordan that the Agenda, as proposed, be approved. Ayes:
Three. Motion carried.
Moved by Gronen, seconded by Jordan that the Minutes of July 2, 2001, as proposed, be
approved. Ayes: Three. Motion carried.
Moved by Jordan, seconded by Gronen that the request of the Fire Chief for authorization to
purchase eight tires at an estimated cost of $1,500.00 be approved. Ayes: Three. Motion
carried.
Moved by Gronen, seconded by Jordan that the travel request for Assistant City Attorney to
attend International Municipal Attorneys Association Annual Conference on September 8-12,
2001, in New Orleans, Louisiana, with costs not to exceed $1,893.59 be approved. Ayes: Three.
Motion carried.
Moved by Gronen, seconded by Jordan that the travel request for Cultural & Arts Curator to
attend training sessions for the State's HRDP grant program and attend Des Moines Art Festival
on June 29-July 1, 2001, with costs not to exceed $97.00 be approved.
Prior to a vote on the above motion, the following comments were heard.
Kent Shankle, Curator, stated that the reason the travel request was submitted late was because
he had personal plans for the date of the trip and did not think he would be able to attend the
training sessions for the grant program or the Art Festival. Mr. Shankle stated that his personal
plans were changed, and he was then able to attend the training sessions and Art Festival.
Councilperson Krizek stated that she has a problem with approving travel requests after the fact.
Councilperson Krizek stated if there is not enough lead time to submit a travel request, she will
vote to deny the travel request.
Following comments a vote was taken on the above motion with the following result. Ayes:
Two. Nays: Krizek. Motion carried.
Moved by Gronen, seconded by Jordan that the travel request for Police Officer to attend
Singleton International 6 Day Law Enforcement Precision Marksman program on August 5-11,
2001 in Moline, Illinois, with costs not to exceed $1,214.00, including use of city vehicle be
approved. Ayes: Three. Motion carried.
Moved by Gronen, seconded by Jordan that the travel request for Police Sergeant and Police
Officer to attend Firearms Instructor Recertification School in Johnston, Iowa on August 5-7,
2001, with costs not to exceed $253.36, including use of city vehicle be approved. Ayes: Three.
Motion carried.
Moved by Gronen, seconded by Jordan that the request of the Superintendent of Central Garage
for pre-authorization to expend not to exceed $2,300.00 to repair truck transmission be approved.
Ayes: Three. Motion carried.
Moved by Jordan, seconded by Gronen that the request of the Community Development Director
for pre-authorization to expend $700.00 Fe, mow and clean up city property at Rath Packing
Company Administration Building be approved. Ayes: Three. Motion carried.
Moved by Gronen, seconded by Jordan that the request of the City Clerk for pre-authorization to
expend $960.00 for masonry work to repair Statue of Liberty at Memorial Hall be approved.
Ayes: Three. Motion carried.
