The following bids received for a chip spreader were reviewed: Bidder Bid Amount James W. Bell Co., Inc. $132,929.00 Road Machinery& Supplies Co. No Bid The chip spreader is used by the Street Department for the application of rock chips used in the street seal coating process. Purchase of the chip spreader is included in the current Capital Equipment Program and was reviewed and approved by the Local Option Tax Committee to be funded by the one cent option tax. It was the recommendation of the Superintendent of Central Garage that the bid from James W. Bell Co., Inc. in the amount of $132,929.00 be accepted. Moved by Jordan, seconded by Murphy that said recommendation be approved. Ayes: Two. Absent: Krizek. Motion carried. The request of the Street Superintendent for authorization to seek bids for treated rock salt for the upcoming winter season was reviewed. The bids will be let jointly with the City of Cedar Falls. The city will be requesting a bid for 6,000 tons of treated rock salt. Moved by Jordan, seconded by Murphy that said request be approved. Ayes: Two. Absent: Krizek. Motion carried. Moved by Jordan, seconded by Murphy that the request of the Fire Chief for authorization to purchase two sets of protective clothing for the two new recruits at a total cost of$1,659.06 be approved. Ayes: Two. Absent: Krizek. Motion carried. The request of the City Clerk for authorization to purchase a new 550 MHz Pentium PC at a cost of !,667.00 was reviewed. Staff has been working with the MIS staff to write a new software program for the parking enforcement operations. The current PC used for data entry for parking enforcement is a used PC acquired from another city department and is inadequate to handle the newly written software program. The Computer Technical Review Committee reviewed and approved the purchase of the new 550 MHz Pentium PC on September 1, 1999. Funding for the purchase of the new PC is available in the current bond program and is included in year four of the computer program. The request of the City Clerk for authorization to renew the Boiler& Machinery Insurance Policy with Travelers Property & Casualty at a cost of $11,557.00 was reviewed. The policy covers losses from boiler explosions and fires in all city building, with a $5,000.00 deductible. The renewal premium of$11,557.00 is the same amount of premium paid by the city last year. The request of the Assistant City Planner for authorization to purchase seven 1550 MHz Pentium PCs at a cost of $11,424.00 was reviewed. The new computers will replace seven existing Pentium 200 computers that are currently being used for the permit system.
