Moved by Jordan, seconded by Krizek that the Agenda, as proposed, be approved. Ayes: Three. Motion carried. Moved by Jordan, seconded by Krizek that the Minutes of July 26, 1999, as proposed, be approved. Ayes: Three. Motion carried. The request of the Building Official to amend the request approved on July 26, 1999 to purchase a pickup truck for Code Enforcement and a pickup truck for the Building Department was reviewed. On July 26, 1999 the Finance Committee approved the purchase of a used vehicle for Code Enforcement and a program vehicle for inspection with a total cost of$23,000.00. Larry Cunningham, Superintendent of Central Garage, has located two new Ford Ranger pickups with a total cost of$22,986.00. Dick Witham Ford has submitted a quote of$11,493.00 for one Ford Ranger pickup for a total quote of$22,986.00. The Building Official is requesting authorization to purchase the two new Ford pickups rather than used program vehicles approved by the Finance Committee on July 26, 1999. Moved by Krizek, seconded by Jordan that the Building Official be authorized to purchase two new Ford Ranger pickups at a cost of $22,986.00. Ayes: Three. Motion carried. The request of the City Forester to approve a contract with Corell Contractors Inc. to chip the brush at Straub Field at a rate of$465.00 per hour was reviewed. On July 26, 1999 the Finance Committee approved a bid of$250.00 per hour, at a cost not to exceed $2,250.00, to chip the brush at Straub Field. The contractor, Midwest Grinding, accepted a larger, more profitable job and has informed the city they are unsure when they will be able to complete the job, but it could possibly be a few months. Corell Contractors was contracted at a rate of$465.00 per hour and started the project today. Corell has a bigger machine and will be able to complete the project faster. Discussion was heard regarding capping the total amount authorized for the project. Moved by Jordan, seconded by Krizek that the contract with Corell Contractors Inc. to chip the brush at Straub Field at a rate of $465.00 per hour be approved, subject to oversight of the project by Leisure Services. Ayes: Three. Motion carried. The request of John Gavin to trade existing palletized bricks for the right to salvage the bricks piled at the Riverview area was reviewed. Mr. Gavin will trade the city 77,000 palletized bricks for the right to salvage the piled bricks at the Riverview area. The value of the 77,000 bricks is 32 cents each or $23,100.00. Moved by Jordan, seconded by Krizek that said request be approved, subject to approval of Main Street Waterloo. Ayes: Three. Motion carried. The following bids received for stabilizing the corner wall at 106 East Fourth Street was reviewed: Bidder Bid Amount Bowers Masonry $2,375.00 Carl Schuler Masonry $2,100.00 As part of the new Waterloo Industries building and parking lot, the city will need to stabilize the corner wall at 106 East Fourth Street, commonly known as Charisse Bridal. The work includes removal and disposal of the existing brick in the corner, installing new concrete blocks as needed and securing the corner into the existing walls. It was the recommendation of the City Planner that the low bid from Carl Schuler Masonry in the amount of$2,100.00 be accepted. Moved by Jordan, seconded by Krizek that said recommendation be approved. Ayes: Three.
