The following bids received for the F.Y. 1999 Traffic Control for Railroad Crossing Repair were reviewed: Bidder Bid Amount Service Signing, L.C. $11,550.00 KWS, Inc. $ 3,250.00 The traffic control devices are needed for the temporary closure of four grade crossing at East 11th Street, Franklin Street, Osage Avenue and Vaughn Street. It was the recommendation of the Associate Engineer that the low bid from KWS, Inc. in the amount of $3,250.00 be accepted. Moved by Jordan, seconded by Krizek that said recommendation be approved. Ayes: Two. Absent: Murphy. Motion carried. The following bids received for magnetic door holders for Public Housing, Ridgeway Towers Apartments, 225 W. Ridgeway Avenue were reviewed: Bidder Bid Amount Custom Communications, Inc. $2,054.71 Hawkeye Alarm and Signal Co. $1,476.00 Sieben Electric, Inc. $2,544.00 The Housing Authority requested bids for complete replacement of 12 door closures on the fire doors on the hallway doors at the apartment building. The original equipment is over 20 years old and the doors are no longer closing properly. The voltage requirements for the old fire doors is obsolete in relation to recently updated fire alarm systems. The new magnetic doors will require that the old wiring and hardware be removed. It was the recommendation of the Housing Authority that the low bid from Hawkeye Alarm and Signal Co. in the amount of$1,476.00 be accepted. Moved by Jordan, seconded by Krizek that said recommendation be approved. Ayes: Two. Absent: Murphy. Motion carried. The request of the City Planner for authorization to proceed with environmental testing of city- owned property located on the corner of 11th Street and northbound Washington service road was reviewed. The Planning and Development staff has been working with a realtor to develop a city- owned lot in conjunction with a privately owned lot. The lot was acquired as part of the Relocated Highway 218 project and was set aside for open space. The lot will stay open space in the development's set back requirements. The property will be sold into the project for $25,000 minus closing costs. After the property is sold, any profit over the purchase price must be returned to the Iowa Department of Transportation. The city property was an old filling station and Phase II environmental investigation needs to be done. The adjoining private property has the same requirements, and they are utilizing Maxim Technologies for their service. Maxim Technologies has quoted $1,500.00 for two boring sites.
