Moved by Getty, seconded by Krizek that the Agenda, as amended to add Item No. 5 under New Business entitled, "Authorization to purchase new transmission for Ambulance #338—Fire Chief', be approved. Ayes: Three. Motion carried. Moved by Getty, seconded by Krizek that the Minutes of October 26, 1998, as proposed, be approved. Ayes: Three. Motion carried. The following bids received for a % ton 4x4 flat bed with plow and a 1 ton utility truck were reviewed: Bidder Bid Amount %ton 4x4 flat bed with plow Dick Witham Ford $28,496.75 Rydell Chevrolet No Bid 1 ton utility truck Dick Witham Ford $31,455.15 Rydell Chevrolet No Bid Cedar Valley Freightliner No Bid It was the recommendation of the Superintendent of Central Garage that the bid of Dick Witham Ford in the amount of$28,496.75 for a % ton flat bed with plow and the bid of Dick Witham Ford in the amount of$31,455.15 for a 1 ton utility truck, for a total of$59,951.90, be accepted. Moved by Krizek, seconded by Getty that said recommendation be approved. Ayes: Three. Motion carried. The request of the Police Chief to retire Police Drug Detection Dog Falko from active police service and give to his current handler was reviewed. Falko is 10 years old, equivalent to the age of 70 human years. Falko has reached the stage in his life where he is no longer physically capable of performing the rigors of police dog duties. The Police Chief is requesting permission to retire Falko from active police service and give him to his current handler, Officer Robert Hewitt. Falko has been the property of the City of Waterloo. Officer Hewitt understands that this will end the city's financial involvement in the health, care and feeding of the dog. Any future expenses and decisions regarding the dog's health will be solely the responsibility of Robert Hewitt. Moved by Krizek, seconded by Getty that said request be approved. Ayes: Three. Motion carried. The request of the Superintendent of Sanitation & Recycling to purchase a Dell computer was reviewed. The MIS Manager has identified the need for expanded capabilities because the current computer is not able to handle all the software used by the Sanitation Department. The existing unit will be transferred to the Street Department to replace an older unit. On September 30, 1998, the MIS Manager received a quote in the amount of $1,807.00 to purchase a new Dell Dimension V computer. Funding is available in the current budget for the purchase of a new computer. The Computer Technical Review Committee reviewed and approved purchase of said computer. Moved by Getty, seconded by Krizek that said request be approved. Ayes: Three. Motion carried. Moved by Getty, seconded by Krizek that the request of the owner of property located at 800 Kingsley to reconsider his request for a sewer refund be denied. Prior to a vote on the above motion, the following comments were heard. The Finance Committee reviewed Mr. Reeves' request on Monday, September 28, 1998 and approved a refund in the amount of$144.90, which follows the city's policy of refunding for only six months. Mr. Reeves is requesting that the Finance Committee refund the entire amount of sewer fees he paid for the past five years.
