Members present: Chairperson Angel, Wright and Buck.
It was moved by Buck, seconded by Wright that the Agenda, as
proposed, be approved. Motion carried.
Discussion was heard on the recommendation on bids received for
uniforms and accessories for the Police Department. It was moved
by Buck, seconded by Wright that the one year contract be
authorized on behalf of the City of Waterloo for police uniforms
and the one year award be given to Palace Clothiers, Inc. for the
purchase of police uniforms and accessories. Motion carried.
Communications from the Police Chief recommending that the apparent
low bid from Walden Photo, Inc. for criminalistic supplies be
accepted.
Councilperson Buck questioned whether the city could pick and
choose on various items of the bid. Larry P. Burger, City
Clerk/Auditor stated that he would recommend that we approach the
two low bids to question whether they would be willing to split
their bid.
It was moved by Buck, seconded by Wright that the bid be awarded to
the apparent low bids on a split contract or that the bid be
awarded and the recommendation of the Police Chief to Walden Photo,
Inc. Motion carried.
Recommendation from the Police Chief to award the police
communication equipment maintenance contract to Iowa Radio. It was
moved by Buck, seconded by Wright that the recommendation from the
Police Chief be approved. Motion carried.
Assistant Fire Chief Frank Magsamen stated that the Fire Department
had bid two portable radios. He is now recommending that the
council recommend purchase of a Motorola G.P. 300 for $568 . 16,
each. It was moved by Wright, seconded by Buck to approve the
recommendation of Assistant Fire Chief Frank Magsamen. Motion
carried.
Assistant Fire Chief Frank Magsamen stated that the Fire Department
is becoming more active in water rescue with the new Chain of Lakes
Project in the area. He stated that some rescue equipment needs to
be updated. Assistant Fire Chief Magsamen stated that it was the
recommendation of the Fire Department to purchase four wet suits,
four pair cold water hoods, four pair water diving boots, and four
dacor hi-tech knives . Assistant Fire Chief Magsamen recommended
that we take the apparent low bid of $1348 for the items listed.
It was moved by Buck, seconded by Wright to approve the request of
the Fire Department. Motion carried.
Waterloo Police Chief Bernal Koehrsen stated that we have eight new
squad cars about to be delivered to the City of Waterloo. He would
recommend that we seek bids for the marking, striping and detailing
for the new police vehicles. It was moved by Buck, seconded by
Wright to approve the request to seek bids for marking, striping
and detailing of the new police cars. Motion carried.
It was moved by Angel, seconded by Wright that the bills payment be
approved as contained in Schedule A918, pp. 1 - 51 in the amount of
$1,772,977 .75, dated June 15, 1992. Ayes: Wright and Angel.
Abstain: Buck. Motion carried.
With no further business before the Committee, the meeting was
adjourned at 6 : 52 p.m.
