HomeMy WebLinkAbout07/23/1990 FINANCE COMMITTEE MINUTES July 23, 1990 6 : 30 p.m. Large Conference Room Members present: Chairperson Angel, Wright and Buck. It was moved by Wright, seconded by Buck that the agenda, as proposed, be approved. Motion carried. The following bids were reviewed for the renovation of Five Sullivan Brothers Convention Center: BIDDERS 1 . The Decorating Center 2 . INTRA 3 . Designs by A.L.B. 4. A joint effort of the Grimes Port Jones Schwerdtfeger Architects and Office Concepts Limited 5 . Interior Planning Larry P. Burger, Clerk/Auditor, stated that it was an unanimous decision of the Committee to recommend the design firm of INTRA for the renovation of the Center. This decision was based on the fact that INTRA is a fee for service firm and not a supplier of furnishings and products. Similarly, they have been involved in projects equal in scope including Allen Hospital, Covenant Medical Center, and Clark, Butler, Walsh Law Firm. Although the proposed fee of 8% is not the low bid, this amount was felt to be reasonable. $200, 000 to $210,000 will be spent on the project, phased over the next few years. It was moved by Wright, seconded by Buck that the recommendation of the Committee to accept the architectural firm of INTRA for the renovation of the Five Sullivan Brothers Convention Center be approved. Motion carried. The bid recommendation on the sound equipment for the Five Sullivan Brothers Convention Center was brought to the floor for discussion. (Please refer to Finance Committee Minutes of July 16, 1990 for bid compilation) Bruce Meisinger, Purchasing Agent, stated that action on this award had been delayed to allow verification of the apparent low bidder, Electronic Contracting Company of Lincoln, Nebraska. The staff has had an opportunity to review the credentials of the Company. Based on the information provided by Electronic Contracting, the company is one of the ten largest sound equipment companies in the nation and is a subsidiary of a Des Moines trucking firm. Mr. Meisinger also reported that the City may consider entering into a maintenance agreement with a local firm for the microphones and all other sound equipment at the Center. It was reported that Electronic Contracting will provide the normal manufacturer ' s warranty for the equipment. It was moved by Wright, seconded by Buck that the low bid of Electronic Contracting Company be approved for sound equipment for the Five Sullivan Brothers Convention Center. Motion carried. The request of the Assistant City Planner for authorization to take bids for asbestos abatement and encapsulation in conjunction with the former East Side Library Renovation Project was reviewed. Mr. VanDee reported that it has been estimated that the total cost will be approximately $15 ,000 . Where possible, the asbestos will be encapsulated. It was moved by Wright, seconded by Buck that authorization to proceed with said asbestos removal bids be approved. Motion carried. ►- zogTpny/xzeT3 A4T3 zabzng •d Ally' •pauznocpp sum buTgaauz agq.
