HomeMy WebLinkAbout10/26/1981 FINANCE COMMITTEE October 26, 1981 City Hall Waterloo, Iowa The Finance Committee of the City of Waterloo, Iowa met in the Mayor's Conference Room in City Hall at 6:30 P.M. on October 26, 1981. Council Member Dowie presiding officer. On Roll Call : Dowie, Wilharm, Bowers, Roehr The bids received on photo equipment for the Police Department were discussed. The receipt of a bid from Walden Photo after the official opening of the bids was explained, at which time it was moved by Roehr, seconded by Bowers to return the unopened bid. The motion carried. The bid of Lippert Camera Company was recommended for acceptance. It was moved by Wilharm, seconded by Roehr to approve the bid of Lippert Camera Company in the amount of $817.82. The motion carried. The report of the Safety Committee on body armor was heard, at which time it was moved by Bowers, seconded by Roehr to approve the bid of Constable Equipment Company for 174 units. The motion carried. The Building and Grounds Committee reported their recommendation on bids received for repair of Fire Station #1. It was moved by Bowers, seconded by Roehr to approve the bid of Jens Oleson Construction Company in the amount of $6,397.00. The motion carried. The following bids were opened for a truck for the Sewer Department: BIDDER AMOUNT 1) Trucks of Iowa $16,953.00 2) Donovan International 16,372.00 It was moved by Roehr, seconded by Bowers to refer the above bids to the Sewer Department for review and recommendation. The motion carried. City Clerk, Larry Burger, presented the request of Mrs. Michael Stafford to refund sewer charges for 343 Carrington in the amount of $80.84 for charges paid since March, 1977. The property was not serviced with sewer until August, 1981. The Finance Committee's past policy of allowing such refunds only for charges one year old was discussed. It was moved by Roehr, seconded by Bowers to refund an amount equal to one year's payment of sewer charges for 343 Carrington. The motion carried. Don Thorson asked if he could be allowed to expend approximately $3,500 for the repair of his salt building. The Building Committee will review this matter. Moved by Bowers, seconded by Roehr to delay this request for one week. Bill Hoffman, Animal Control , requested that he be allowed to take bids on a new typewriter for his office. Moved by Roehr, seconded by Bowers to allow the above request. Motion carried. Curt Parsons, Building Official , explained that the furnace in the Electrical Department was in bad repair and recommended that he be allowed to take bids on a new furnace. Moved by Roehr, seconded by Wilharm to allow this request. Motion carried. Moved by Wilharm, seconded by Roehr to allow the following bills to be paid: DEPT. P.O. VENDOR AMT. Garage 7322 Goodyear Service Stores $1,311.34 Sewer 7210 Watco Construciton Co. 1,190.80 Street 7431 Mantek Co. 680.09 7433 Ernster & Co. 4,488.00 7434 Cedar Valley Corp. 5,182.00 7436 Robins Discount Surplus 503.28 Water Pollution Control 7442 Crane Packing Co. 683.88 7525 Jens Oesen & Sons 5,000.00 7526 Capital City Boiler & Mach. 600.00 Health & Sanitation 7527 Iowa Business Machines 1,435.95 Motion carried. FINANCE COMMITTEE October 26, 1981 Page 2 Bruce Bottorf, Water Pollution Control , requested that he be allowed to repair a filter wall at the Water Pollution Control Plant and that Jens Olesen be given the bid because of being familar with the situation. Approximate cost of the repair is $4,200. Moved by Roehr, seconded by Bowers to allow this request. Motion carried. Jim Burton requested that the Building Committee be allowed to look into remodeling the new part of the East Library Building. The Council on Aging has expressed an interest in locating their offices there. Moved by Roehr, seconded by Wilharm to allow the Building Committee to receive plans and specifications for the remodeling of the East Library. Money is to come from the sale of the old West Side Library. Motion carried. Junior Grimm, Police Chief, asked the Finance Committee's permission to take bids on 143 new safety holsters. Moved by Wilharm, seconded by Roehr to allow the above request. Motion carried. Chairman Dowie called for additional new business, there was none. The meeting was adjourned at 6:55 P.M. Larry P.
