The Finance Committee of the City of Waterloo , Iowa met in the Mayor' s
Conference Room in City Hall at 6 : 30 P.M. on June 22 , 1981.
Council Member Dowie presiding officer.
On i.oll Call: Dowie, Wilharm, Bowers and Roehr.
Larry Cunningham, Garage Superintendent , reported that because of the
lack of funds , he and the Street Department Superintendent were recom-
mending that the bids received on two (2) dump trucks June 15 , 1981 be
rejected. It was moved by Bowers , seconded by Roehr to cancel all bids
and inform the bidders of this action. The motion carried.
Larry Burger, City Clerk, reported on the request of Charles P. Beard,
on behalf of Violet M. Dean of 814 W. 2nd Street for refund of garbage
since June 1980. The former resident has not resided at this residence
,,, since that time. The Waterloo Water Works has confirmed that the owner
has been paying the monthly fee for a total of $36. 00 . It was moved by
Roehr, seconded by Wilharm to make a refund to Violet M. Dean in the
amount of $36 . 00. The motion carried.
Larry Burger, City Clerk , explained the possible need for the purchase
of an electronic postage machine . He stated that the current machine
does not allow for complete accuracy by its operator, and thus causes
the operator to add postage to a package or letter if there is any
question. A spot check by Pitney Bowes indicated that over $5 . 00 for
one particular day was added over and above what was needed. It was
moved by Bowers to authorize the taking of bids for a posting machine.
The motion died for lack of a second. Councilman Roehr asked that the
total amount spent by the City for postage be investigated.
It was moved by Roehr, seconded by Bowers to approve payment of the
following bills :

The motion carried.
With no further business before the committee , the meeting was adjourned
at 6 :45 P.M.
