The Finance Committee of the City of Wsterloo, Iowa met in the Mayor ' s
Conference Room in City Hall at 6 : 00 P .M. on December 22 , 1980.
Council Member Dowie, presiding .
On Roll Call : Dowie, Roehr, Wilharm, Bowers
The purchase of an explosion-proof motor and fireproof cabinet for the
Police Department was discussed. It was explained that these items were
necessary to meet OSHA guidelines and local fire regulations . The cost
of the motor was supplied by two (2) contractors : Union Plumbing &
Heating in the amount of $106 . 25 and Heating & Cooling Supply in the
amount of $106. 25 . It was moved by Roehr, seconded by Bowers to approve
the purchase of a motor. The motion carried. There were then discussion
on who should be awarded the bid since both bids were for identical amounts .
Since Union Plumbing and Heating was a retailer, it was moved by Roehr ,
seconded by Bowers to approve the Union Plumbing and Heating bid in the
amount of $106 . 25 . The motion carried. The purchase of a fireproof
cabinet was discussed with Larry P. Burger, City Clerk interjecting that
the Print Shop was also in need of such a cabinet for storage of chemicals .
After discussion between the Print Shop and the Police Department , they
had decided that a unit could be shared. The excess cost for the over-
sized cabinet will be paid for by the Print Shop . Quotations were
received from Fisher Scientific Co . in the amount of $485 . 00; Cole Farmer Co.
in the amount of $413 . 20 ; Superior Welding Co . in the amount of $363 . 75 .
It was moved by Roehr, seconded by Bowers to accept the bid of Superior
Welding Co. subject to a firm price for the larger cabinet. The motion
carried.
It was moved by Roehr, seconded by Bowers to approve the following bills :

The motion carried.
With no further business before the Committee , the meeting was adjourned
