HomeMy WebLinkAbout10/13/1980 FINANCE COMMITTEE October 13 , 1980 City Hall , Waterloo , Iowa The Finance Committee of the City of Waterloo , Iowa met in the Mayor ' s Conference Room in City Hall at 6 : 30 P .M. on October 13 , 1980 . Council Member Dowie, presiding. On Roll Call : Dowie , Roehr, Wilharm, Bowers Don Thorson, Street Superintendent, presented bids for the F.Y. 1981 Storm Sewer Repair Program. Proposals were sent to eleven prospective bidders with bids received from Dale Clark Contracting - $1 ,250 and Winmor Construction Co . - $3 , 500 . It was moved by Wilharm, seconded by Roehr to accept the low bid of Dale Clark Contracting in the amount of $1 , 250 . The motion carried. Larry Cunningham, Garage Superintendent , asked that authorization be given for the purchase of an impeller for a street sweeper at a cost of $1 , 185 . It was moved by Roehr , seconded by Wilharm to allow this expenditure. The motion carried. Larry Cunningham, Garage Superintendent , asked that authorization be given for the purchase of a hydraulic pump for a salt spreader for an approximate cost of $550 . This is a budgeted amount . It was moved by Roehr, seconded by Wilharm to allow this expenditure. The motion carried. Virgil Graybill , Motor Vehicle Parking Superintendent , asked to be authorized to bid on parking meters and supplies in Estherville , Iowa. They would be used for parts . After discussion, it was moved by Roehr, seconded by Wilharm to allow an expenditure of approximately $3 , 000. 00 (discretion is to be used in bidding) for the above stated purpose . The motion carried. (Money should be used from the repair line_ item in the MVPF project. ) Don Temeyer, Plan and Program Director, explained that an appraiser must be employed to perform an appraisal on property in the Castle Hill Area. The court decision has resulted in the City being ordered to buy the land in question and compensate the owners . It was moved by Roehr , seconded by Bowers to employ Hennessey Appraisal & Counseling Service at a cost of $1 , 500 . The motion carried. (Money will be used from contingencies of the Finance Department. Bruce Bottorff, Director of Water Pollution Control , presented bids from four companies for the retubing of a Kewanee Boiler . The low bid was from Boiler Service & Supply, Inc . in the amount of $7 , 792 . It was moved by Wilharm, seconded by Bowers to approve the above expenditure . The motion carried. Mayor Rooff stated that the Council would be considering a contract with Brice, Petrides & Associates , Inc . to perform engineering services relating to storm water drainage for the City. A proposal will be presented prior to approval of the contract . It will be a four year contract at an approximate cost of $200 , 000 . Chairman Dowie called for additional business , there was none, and it was moved to close the meeting at 6 : 50 P .M. Larry P . Burger City Clerk
