HomeMy WebLinkAbout09/08/1980 FINANCE COMMITTEE September 8, 1980 City Hall , Waterloo, Iowa The Finance Committee of the City of Waterloo, Iowa met in the Mayor's Conference Room in City Hall at 6:30 P.M. on September 8, 1980. Council Member Dowie, presiding. On Roll Call : Dowie, Bowers, Roehr, Wilharm Don Thorson presented bids from three companies on two pickups for the Street Depart- ment. New bids were solicited, since the earlier low bidder (Trucks of Iowa) for the same above-mentioned vehicles were unable to deliver 1980 models as was specified in their earlier bid proposal . Discussion followed as to why the dealer was not able to deliver the 1980 models and what action should be taken. Chairman Dowie asked that a strongly-worded letter be forwarded to the dealer indicating the City's objection to the dealer not fulfilling the contract agreement. Bids were submitted by Trucks of Iowa, George Morris Chevrolet, Hanawalt Ford. Trucks of Iowa submitted the low bid in the amount of $6,372.00 for one and $5,837.00 for the other. These bids combined were approximately $1 ,200.00 over the former low bid. It was moved by Roehr, seconded by Bowers that the low bid of Trucks of Iowa be approved and a letter sent to the company, as mentioned above. The motion carried. Don Thorson stated that repair to a double pipe culvert in the 3500 Block of Kingswood Place was necessary due to a washout. An estimate in the amount of $1 ,800.00 has been received by Ernester & Co. , Inc. Money for the project will be taken from the street rejuvenation fund. It was moved by Bowers, seconded by Wilharm to approve the expenditure of $1 ,800.00 for the repair. The motion carried. Don Thorson recommended that CB radios be installed in the various road graders and snow plows. An estimate of $1 ,200 - $1 ,300 for one base unit and thirteen units has been obtained. It was moved by Bowers, seconded by Roehr to approve the expenditure for the radios. The motion carried. Chairman Dowie called for additional business, there was none, and it was moved to close the meeting at 6:55 P.M. Larry P. Burger City Clerk
