HomeMy WebLinkAbout08/11/1980 FINANCE COMMITTEE August 11 , 1980 City Hall , Waterloo, Iowa The Finance Committee of the City of Waterloo, Iowa met in the Mayor's Conference Room in City Hall at 6:30 p.m. on August 11 , 1980. Council Member Dowie, presiding On Roll Call : Dowie, Bowers , Roehr, Absent: Wilharm Fred Debe and John Fister representing Jim Youngblut, asked the Finance Committee to review the City's financial participation in the oversizin of a culvert on Alexandra Drive. Past Citypolicy has ben to participat g proposed drainage sizing of culverts within subdivisions. Thesepartticular culverts are�n nothwitovr- hin a subdivision. The City Engineer is opposed to City participation in this instance. The developers explained how this proposed culvert will carry flow from the upper part of the basin in addition to flow generated from their own adjacent properties. After discussion, the committee decided to delay action until the 18th of August at which time maps and drawings will be available for review. Acting Police Cheif Junior Grimm presented bids received on nine (9) new vehicles. A total of $74,100 was allocated in the FY 1981 Budget for capital expenditures. The low bid was George Morris Chevrolet in the amount of$70,598.70 for all nine cars. It was moved by Bowers , seconded by Roehr that the bid of George Morris Chevrolet in the amount of$70,598.70 be approved. The motion carried. Mayor Rooff asked the City Attorney to investigate whether the City can only accept bids for vehicles from companies within the corporate limits of Waterloo. This will be investigated. Larry Burger, City Clerk, reported the potential uses for a word processor in various departments within the City. A list of specifications have been drawn up. He asked that he be authorized to contact other companies to submit bids. The Committee allowed this request. Don Temeyer, Plan and Program Director, presented a written bidding procedure for the purchase of City equipment. The Committee was asked to review the procedures and make any comments that are necessary. Open bids will not be accepted. After the opening of the bids , they will be referred to the department head for review and recommendation. These two later changes will be incorporated into the bid documents.
