HomeMy WebLinkAbout08/04/1980 FINANCE COMMITTEE AUGUST 4, 1980 CITY HALL, WATERLOO, I OWA The Finance Committee of the City of Waterloo, Iowa met in the Mayor's Conference Room in City Hall at 6:30 p.m. on August 4, 1980. Council Member Dowie, presiding On Roll Call : Dowie, Bowers, Roehr Absent: Wilharm City Clerk Larry Burger informed the Finance Committee that he and several other offices including Personnel , Planning and Program, and the Attorneys are investigating the possibility of buying or leasing a word processor. No specifications have been developed, but several staff have seen the machine work and are investigating the applicability to uses within City Hall . Chairman Dowie asked that if at all possible Committee members make an appointment at A.B. Dick to see orf' demonstrated. will be taken on the machine. Bids Jerry Sexton, Electrical Superintendent, presented three bids for afi aerial truck. They were as follows: Badger Body and Truck Equipment Company -- Omaha, Nebraska - $69,699.00 Road Machinery and Supplies Company -- Bloomington, Minnesota - $68,820.00 Truck Equipment, Inc. , -- Des Moines, Iowa - $62,997.50 The old machine will not be traded in, but will require repair in the amount on approximately $14,000 - $15,000. The budgeted amount in F.Y. 1981 Operating Budget for the machine is $63,000.00. It was moved by Roehr, seconded by Bowers to accept the low bid of Truck Equipment, Inc. , of Des Moines in the amount of $62,997. 50. The Motion Carried. Chairman Dowie inquired as to the possibility of opening all bids on vehicles at the Finance Committee meeting rather than having each department open them. This procedure will be instituted. Junior Grimm Acting Police Chief stated that his department was in need of purchasing 46_ batteries for police car radios. Discussion followed as to the life of batteries and the last purchase of batteries. Roehr suggested the possibility of investigating various brands of batteries for durability. It was moved by Bowers , seconded by Roehr to purchase the batteries at an estimated cost of $2,000.00. The Motion Carried. Chairman Dowie called for additional business, there was none, and it was moved to close the meeting at 6: 50 p.m. Larry P. Burger City Clerk
