HomeMy WebLinkAbout07/21/1980 FIN.W4CE COMMITTEE JUL 21 , 1980 CI HALL, WATERLOO , IOWA The Finance Committee of the City of Waterloo , Iowa met in the Mayor' s Conference Room in City Hall at 6 : 30 p .m. on July 21 , 1980. Council Member Wilharm, presiding. On Roll Call : Wilharm, Roehr, Bowers Absent : Dowie A letter was read by Wilharm from the U. S . Post Office reporting a rate increase in the cost of our post office box for City Hall mail . Discussion followed as to the way in which mail is currently delivered to City Hall and possible alternatives . It was moved by Bowers, seconded by Wilharm to refer the matter to Larry Burger and Tom Campbell , City Clerk and City Treasurer/Finance Director respectively, for investigation and report back. Three garbage refunds that were received past the deadline of April 15 , 1980 by the Finance Director were discussed. Mr . Campbell asked that the Committee consider giving the refund. All were within the guidelines established by the City . It was moved by Roehr, seconded by Bowers to allow the refunds . The motion carried. Councilman Getty asked what progress had been made to date on the stoLm clean-up process . He stated that little or no work had been undertaken inthe Greenbrier Area . After discussion , the Mayor recoiuiiended that one crew be stationed in each ward to aid the Street and Park Department . Ralph Anderson, City Engineer, cited repairs that are needed for the Caterpillar Grader estimated to cost approximately $7 , 000 . 00 . A line item for heavy equipment repair exists in their F.Y. 1981 Budget . Replacement of the vehicle is estimated to be $100 , 000 . 00 . It was moved by Bowers , seconded by Roehr to authorize the repair of the vehicle . The motion carried. Mayor Rooff stated that he would ask the City Attorney to negotiate with the attorney for Eddie Denton for legal costs incurred with his dismissal case . The Mayor felt that the City had a "moral obligation" to aid in the bill which amounts to $5 , 600 . 00 . It was moved by Roehr, seconded by Bowers to refer this matter to the City Attorney for his investigation. The motion carried . Mayor Rooff reported that he had had a conversation with Waterloo Cablevision for their non-compliance with the cable T .V. ordinance . They are now 10 months behind schedule. He has asked that service be completed to the entire city as per their contract within one month. Non-compliance will result in the City Council holding a public hearing and possible discontinuation of the contract . Council Member Wilharm called for additional business , there was none , and it was moved by Roehr , seconded by Bowers to the close the meeting at 6 : 50 p .m. Larry P . Burger City Clerk
