HomeMy WebLinkAbout05/19/1980 c FINANCE COMMITTEE May 19, 1980 Mayor's Conference Roan City Hall, Waterloo, Iowa The Finance Committee of the City of Waterloo, Iowa met in the Mayor's Conference Roan in City Hall at 6:30 p.m. on May 19, 1980. Council Member Dowie, Chairman presiding. On Roll Call:Bowers, Dowie, Roehr,Wilharm The Mayor reported on his conversation with American IaFrance regarding the City's payment on the fire engine. Ordinarily, they require cash on delivery; however they would be willing to enter into a contract stating that we pay 20% down immediately with the balance due on August 1,1980,at an interest rate of 107. This arrangement would allow the balance to be paid from general obligation bond issue. Several que- stions were raised on the legality of paying this interest rate. Action was deferred until such time as these questions can be answered. The Building Committee reported in their findings regarding repair of the City's Stor- age Building located at W. 6th. and Bluff Streets. Their recommendation was to mini- mally repair the building by undertaking a clean-up effort not do exceed $500.00. The work would be performed by City employees and paid for equally from budgets of the Electrical and Sewer Departments. It was moved by Wilhann, seconded by Roehr to accept the recommendation of the Building Committee to spend the $500.00 in cleaning up the building located at the intersection of W.6th and Bluff Streets. The motion carried. Larry Cunningham presented three bids for a pick-up to be paid from the 1981 buuget. The GYIC bid was the lowest bid (1980 Model) . The other two bids (1981 Model) were higher, but the prices could not be guaranteed to remain the same. It was moved by Wilharm, seconded by Bowers to accept the bid for the GMC at a cost of $21,769.00. The motion carried. Action on bids for vehicles for the Sewer Department tabled for one week to allow writ- ten reports to be distributed to the Finance Committee. Virgil Graybill presented a bid for a GMC 4 Wheel Drive truck to be used for snow re- moval from the parking ramps. The bid .mount was $6,922.00. It was moved by Bowers seconded by Roehr to accept this bid. Motion carried. Councilman Roehr stated that one bid had been received for the radio maintenance contract for the coming fiscal year. Action on the accepting a bid will be taken in the near future. Phyllis Henderson and Patricia Edwards appeared to support the City's funding of the Parenting Groups Program for Jesse Cosby Center. Last year the City signed a contract with the group and contributed uuiiey for the program. This year the City's contribu- tion will be $3,690. This must first be approved by the Finance Committee prior' to the City signing the contract. This matter will be taken up by the Finance Committee at next week's meeting.
