May 12, 1980
Mayor's Conference Room
City Hall , Waterloo, Iowa
The Finance Committee of the City of Waterloo, Iowa, met in the Mayor's Conference
Room in the City Hall at 6:30 p.m. on May 12, 1980.
Council Member Dowie, Chairman, presiding.
On Roll Call : Bowers, Dowie, Roehr, Wilharm
Fire Chief Smith presented cost comparisons for ambulance services for the years
1973 & 1980 for items including salaries of employees, gasoline, and vehicle
costs. Current and proposed rates that were recommended by the Safety Committee
were discussed including rates for emergency calls, transfers, etc. The Finance
Committee asked that an ordinance be submitted to the full Council establishing
the rate increases recommended by the Safety Committee.
The City has received word that the new fire engine has arrived , however, it
cannot be delivered until payment is made. The bond money which had been thought
to be available for its payment has not yet been bonded for. Due to the bond
market situation, bonds will not be sold until July, 1980 rather than the
February, 1980 proposed date. The Finance Committee recommended that bond money
from the July, 1980 issue be used to finance the new engine.
It was moved by Bowers, seconded by Wilharm not to pay the bill of $21 .63 sub-
mitted by the Human Rights Commission for flowers and a vase for their secretary.
The motion carried.
Jerry Sexton, City Electrician , brought up the poor condition of the City's
building located at the corner of East 6th & Bluff Streets. The City stores
some equipment and materials in the building. Estimates of the repair costs
are approximately $1 ,800.00. The Finance Committee recommended that the Build-
ing Committee review the situation with a report back.
Larry Cunningham reported that bids had been obtained for two trucks for the
Street Department. This matter was tabled until next week's meeting.
Chairman Dowie called for additional business, there was none, and it was
moved to close the meeting at 6:55 p.m.
