Council Member Dowie, Chairman, presiding. On Roll Call : Bowers, Roehr, Wilharm and Dowie. Councilman Bowers presented the report of the Building Committee regarding the request of the City Clerk to install carpeting in his office. Their recommen- dation was that the request be granted and that the low bid of Hurwich's in the amount of $342.00 be accepted. It was moved by Wilharm, seconded by Roehr to approve this recommendation. The motion carried. Larry Cunningham, Garage Superintendent, stated that the ditch-cleaning bucket on the City's excavating vehicle was sprung and will require immediate repair. The cost of repair has been estimated to be approximately $900.00. No money exists within garage's budget for repair of this particular item; however, repair monies will be found, as the vehicle is a vital piece of equipment. It was moved by Roehr, seconded by Wilharm to authorize the expenditure of a maximum sum of $900.00 for the repair. The motion carried. Mayor Rooff stated that a construction equipment sale is being held in Des Moines and that a portable asphalt crusher is being sold. He asked that a City representative be authorized to bid up to an amount not exceeding $4,999.00 for the equipment. The equipment would be used to crush the asphalt being taken off the downtown streets, then recycled and reused. It was moved by Bowers, seconded by Roehr to authorize a City representative to bid an amount not to exceed $4,999.00 for the asphalt crusher. The motion carried. Larry Burger, City Clerk, broughtup the subject of insurance for the City's Auxiliary Police Force. Currently, the disability insurance which the City carries for each calls for payment of $20.00 a week. It has been suggested that this be increased to $100.00 week. Also, the accidental medical expense has been suggested to be raised from its present $2,000.00 to $5,000.00. Questions were raised as to how these changes would affect the City's blanket policy for all employees. Therefore, formal action was delayed for one week on this matter. Larry Burger, City Clerk, stated that action on the Police Chief's request for an additional $123,540 during the FY 81 Budget was delayed last week. After review, it was determined that the request can be met except for the $50,000.00 for CETA positions. Mr. Burger and Don Temeyer, Acting Plan & Program Director, will discuss the situation with the Police Chief and find a workable solution and report back to the Finance Committee. Chairman Dowie called for additional business , there was none, and it was moved to close the meeting at 6:55 P.M. 1 ,,+ Larry P. Burger City Clerk
