The Finance Committee of the City of Waterloo, Iowa, met in the Mayor' s Con-
ference Room in City Hall at 6 : 30 P .M. on December 17, 1979.
Council Member Getty, Chairman, presiding.
On roll call : Present : Dowie, Getty, Roehr, Wilharm. Absent : None.
Chairman Getty called the meeting to order.
Council Member Roehr asked what action had been taken on the request of Ray
Hoofnagle for the City to pay his bill from Rotor-Rooter regarding his sewer
backing up 3 to 4 inches of raw sewage in his basement and being caused from
the City flushing out its system. Discussion followed on if paid by the City,
would we be setting a precedent on all sewer and water damages? Mayor Rooff
commented that possibly informing people when the City will be flushing in
their neighborhood. Council Member Wilharm said if the City was at fault in
causing this sewage to back up , that the City should be responsible for this
bill of $12 . 50 to Rotor-Rooter.
Moved by Wilharm, seconded by Getty to pay this bill of $12. 50 to Rotor-Rooter,
and in the future try to keep people in the neighborhoods aware of any City
flushing. Motion carried.
Chairman Getty called for additional business , there was none , and it was
moved by Wilharm, seconded by Dowie to close this meeting at 6 : 42 P .M. so
the Council may meet in Closed Executive Session.
