Mayor' s Conference Room
City Hall , Waterloo, Iowa
The Finance Committee of the City of Waterloo , Iowa, met in the Mayor' s Con-
ference Room in City Hall at 6 : 30 P .M. on November 19, 1979.
Council Member Dowie , Acting Chairman, presiding.
On roll call : Present: Dowie , Roehr. Absent: Getty, Wilharm.
Garage Supt. Cunningham reported the transmission was out on a caterpillar and
road grader, both of which are used for snow removal . Possible cost would be
around $5 , 000 to $6, 000. He also reported needing a gas pump motor, for the
unleaded pump is not working, and it might run up to $$300 for an explosion-
proof motor. Approved.
Plan and Program Director Franke and Fire Chief Smith were present to discuss
the fire engine proposal. Franke said there are two options : (1) not renew the
engine, or (2) include the $16, 000 in G.O. Bonds ; for there is no money in the
Fire Dept. budget for this expense . Fire Chief Smith explained what was going
to be done . They have a 1956 and a 1969 engine, where they will transfer the
engine and transmission from the 1969 into the 1956 and use the 1956 for a
good reserve truck with diesel engine . Then the new engine and transmission
will go into the 1969 which is in good shape and only ten years old. Chief
Smith said he would like to take advantage of the low bid he has now and
questioned what the Committee thought. Discussion followed, but due to lack
of a quorum and the Mayor' s absence, this was deferred until December 3, 1979 .
Plan and Program Director Franke informed the Council Members that if they want
a copy of any departments budget, to just let his office know, and they will
furnish copies to them.
Acting Chairman Dowie said the Finance Committee will discuss on December 3, 1979,
unit prices on several things from Engineers Office concerning emergency situa-
tions.
Acting Chairman Dowie called for additional business , there was none , and closed
the meeting at 6 : 43 P .M.
