The Finance Committee of the City of Waterloo, Iowa, met in the Mayor 's Con-
ference Room in City Hall at 6 : 30 P .M. on October 8, 1979 .
Council Member Dowie, Acting Chairman, presiding .
On roll call: Present: Dowie, Roehr, Wilharm. Absent: Getty.
Acting Chairman Dowie called the meeting to order .
Plan and Program Dir. Franke explained the letter from Chairman Getty on the
two snow plows , with recommendation for the bid of $3400. 00 for both.
Moved by Wilharm, seconded by Roehr to approve recommendation for purchasing
two snow plows for $3400 . 00. Motion carried.
Plan and Program Dir . Franke informed the Committee on the flusher unit for the
Sewer Dept. with choice of either going $600 over budget with gas unit, or
$3900 over with diesel unit . Discussed was if diesel was worth that much more
money. Council Member Bowers asked if this may be deferred a week so the
Public Works Committee may discuss this with Sewer Supt . Huntley and Garage
Supt. Cunningham, for he feels the diesel is worth the extra, and would last
longer and run cheaper than gas unit . Mayor Rooff said it would depend alot
on how often it was started and how long it ran at one time . Garage Supt.
Cunningham reported at peak times maybe 30 hours a week.
Moved by Wilharm seconded by Roehr to deferr action for one week and wait for
recommendation from Public Works Committee . Motion carried.
Discussed was Nancy Schlachter and her complaint of paying double garbage fees ,
and the Mayor recommended if the Committee takes any action, that it be only
forgiving 3 months of her bills . The Committee decided to wait to see if she
would be at the Council Meeting, and discuss this with her, and then make a
decision.
Acting Chairman Dowie called for additional business , there was none, and
closed the meeting at 6 : 40 P .M.
