Council Member Dowie, Acting Chairman, presiding . On roll call : Present: Dowie, Roehr, Wilharm. Absent: Getty. Acting Chairman Dowie called the meeting to order . Mayor Rooff informed the Committee of a travel request on the agenda for Brooks from the Parks Department, for a trip he took in August. The Parks Department completely forgot to bring this request to the Council . Garage Supt. Cunningham passed out copies of bids for equipment needed for the new station, and recommended taking low bid on all items except air compressor, for which he recommended the model needed for future growth with required reserve tanks . Moved by Wilharm, seconded by Roehr that the Committee accept the recommenda- tions of the Garage Supt. checking quality and price . Motion carried. Garage Supt. Cunningham reported 2 bids received for 1 dump-truck for Street Dept. with the low bid being $13, 600 from Trucks of Iowa; the bids were given to Finance Dir/Treas . Campbell . He said a transmission blew-up in a garbage truck. The Committee said to hold these for a week. Also requested was re- placing a vacuum hose for around $485 . 00, and it was moved by Roehr, seconded by Wilharm to approve the expenditure of $485 . 00 for vacuum hose . Motion carried. Mayor Rooff reported a property owner has requested that a sewage disposal assessment of $13 . 56 be waived. Her tenants , which she was unaware, failed to pay and feels she is not responsible for . The Committee discussed this and it was moved by Wilharm, seconded by Roehr to deny this request . Motion carried. Finance Dir. /Treas . Campbell reported a request from a citizen to refund 3 years of garbage fees that she paid the City for pickup, but claims she had a private firm do this work so the City garbage trucks never picked up any garbage at her address . The Committee discussed this and saw no reason why the City could not refund her the money, if she supplied a notarized statement proving she paid a private collector to do this work. Acting Chairman Dowie asked about the bill for attorney fees and Mayor Rooff approved paying these fees for Earl Jago, City Assessor, for the City could go back and charge half to County and half to the School System. Mayor Rooff checked with the Fire Chief on that standby ambulance needed in Des Moines October 4, 1979 for Pope ' s Visit, and the Chief thinks its available and that he could get two firemen to volunteer for this . Mayor said he will get back with the Committee as to which way they will want to go. Acting Chairman Dowie called for additional business , there was none, and closed the meeting at 6: 47 P .M.
