HomeMy WebLinkAbout09/17/1979 Finance )mmittee September 17 , 1979 Mayor' s Conference Room City Hall, Waterloo, Iowa The Finance Committee of the City of Waterloo, Iowa, met in the Mayor ' s Con- ference Room in City Hall at 6 : 30 P ,M. on September 17, 1979 . Council Member Getty, Chairman, presiding . On roll call: Present: Getty, Roehr, Wilharm. Absent: Dowie . Chairman Getty called the meeting to order. Inspector Boesen informed the Committee of the problem with the condenser in the air-conditioning unit in. Police Records Room downstairs . The Freon and water were mixing together and there was a choice of spending $1418. 00 for repair, or $2765 . 00 for a new condensing unit with a five year guarantee, which was the bid from Meyers Sheet Metal Works . The Finance Committee consulted with the Building Committee, and all approved going with Meyer ' s bid for a new unit. Motion carried. Mayor Rooff introduced Elaine Bruens from Harley Davidson Cycle Center who was inquiring on bids for new motorcycles for Police Department . She inquired if they could be notified of future biddings . Asst . Police Chief Meyer confitined they do have her bid, and the Department has not decided whether to buy new units or repair the old ones , and that is why the Committee and others were not informed of the bidding . Mayor Rooff informed the Coiiunittee of a request he received over the phone from the State Emergency Service Council asking Waterloo to volunteer one ambulance and two attendants to assist Des Moines for the Pope ' s Visit; they are expecting around a million people. Mayor expressed concern about keeping Waterloo people in town properly covered, and reported the City does have an old standby station- wagon ambulance that the Committee might consider, but he would have to check into this further, and to see if we could get two ambulance attendants to volunteer for this . The Committee decided to let the Mayor do some checking and bring back to Committee next week. Garage Supt. Cunningham reported on equipping of new filling station garage, and taking bids on floor-jack, air-compressor, etc. on which he has a low bid of $3100. 00 and asked whether this bid should be accepted and equipment ordered, or to wait for additional bids and accept low bid? They are within a week of moving in, and the utilities are hooked up . He said this building would be used for Police cars for now, and maybe all City cars . Moved by Roehr, seconded by Getty to bring these bids back next week. Motion carried. Chairman Getty questioned the requisition from McElroy Aud. for exhaust fans in the kitchen area and Council Member Bowers said this is covered under the contract with the City. Moved by Getty, seconded by Roehr for the Finance Committee to go into a Closed Executive Session. Motion carried. FINANCE COMMITTEE NOW IN CLOSED EXECUTIVE SESSION. Finance Committee now reconvened in regular session. Moved by Roehr, seconded by wilharm to make payment of $475 . 95 . Motion carried.
