HomeMy WebLinkAbout09/10/1979 Finance Committee September 10, 1979 Mayor ' s Conference Room City Hall, Waterloo, Iowa The Finance Committee of the City of Waterloo, Iowa, met in the Mayor ' s Con- ference Room in City Hall at 6: 30 P .M. on September 10, 19/9 . Council Member Getty, Chairman, presiding. On roll call: Present: Dowie, Getty, Roehr, Wilharm. Chairman Getty called the meeting to order. Sewer Supt . Huntley reported a major failure of sewer that collapsed in Hawver Court, the cement was 75 years old and just crumbled. He requested replacing approximately 285 feet of sewer in the range of $6, 000, and it was moved by Roehr, seconded by Getty that the Committee approve this emergency repair and asked Sewer Supt. Huntley to bring this to Council Meeting tonight for approval . Motion carried. Chairman Getty questioned the expense for attorney fees for Friends of Faith, Mayor Rooff replied we are not liable. Every year non-profit organizations re-submit for tax exempt status, and this year the County Appeals Board did not approve Friends of Faith, so they took them to court and won, and then the Appeals Board took it to the Iowa Supreme Court. Mayor Rooff said the state code says the City will provide for attorney for the City Assessor, but he will check into this further with City Attorney Hultman, for we have already spent around $7, 000. He asked the Committee to hold this for a week or so. Finance Dir. /Treas . Campbell reported the Road Use Tax Report was on the agenda, and has already been mailed.
