HomeMy WebLinkAbout08/13/1979 Finance Committee August 13, 1979 Mayor ' s Conference Room City Hall, Waterloo, Iowa The Finance Committee of the City of Waterloo, Iowa, met in the Mayor ' s Con- ference Room in City Hall at 6: 30 P.M. , on August 13, 1979 . Council Member Getty, Chairman, presiding . On roll call: Present: Dowie, Getty, Roehr . Absent : Wilharm. Chairman Getty called the meeting to order . City Clerk Gibbs recommended the acceptance of the low bid of Lincoln' s Office Supply for the 100, 000 parking tickets . Parking Ramp Supt. , Virgil Graybill agreed as this was the firm we purchased from in the past . Moved by Dowie, seconded by Roehr that low bid of Lincoln' s for $3764. 70 for parking tickets be approved. Motion carried. Garage Supt. , Larry Cunningham reported having difficulty in finding a van for Animal Control for $6, 000 plus air-conditioning. He reported receiving one bid for 79 ' model but it was sold. Larry asked what he should do, keep looking for a 79 ' model, for around this price range, or wait and submit bids on an 80' model which could run up to $6500 or more . Discussed was Animal Control cutting their budget somewhere to make up for the extra the van might cost. Also sug- gested was buying a pickup with topper, maybe $1500 cheaper and would not need air-conditioning . Chairman Getty told Larry to keep checking and if he finds one, put it on hold, subject to approval . Chairman Getty questioned how much salt the City uses for snow removal and Garage Supt. , Larry Cunningham estimated about 80 tons each snow, maybe 1000 tons a year. Mayor Rooff reported talking with Humane Society on their budget request. They wanted over their $36, 000 which they were budgeted for, Mayor Rooff said that he and Animal Control Director Hoffman should get together with them, and not allocate more than a total amount of $36 , 000. Moved by Roehr, seconded by Dowie that Mayor Rooff and Bill Hoffman talk with Humane Society on setting their request for no more than $36, 000 . Motion carried. Garage Supt. , Larry Cunningham reported a 72 ' John Deem grader had a broken frame, a Dubuque engineer was to check for repairs , and if it falls under warranty. He said it broke at the main stress point through the cab, and he will get back with the Committee after he hears the report from the engineer . Discussed was request for $194. 76 from Fahr Beverage and Clean Community Commission and if this is City' s share for the litter signs , etc . Mayor Rooff to check with Annette Dietz, and bring back to the Committee next week. Moved by Getty, seconded by Dowie for the Finance Committee to go into a Closed Executive Session. Motion carried. FINANCE COMMITTEE NOW IN CLOSED EXECUTIVE SESSION, Finance Committee now reconvened in regular session.
