HomeMy WebLinkAbout06/18/1979 Fin =e Committee June 18, 1979 Mayor' s Conference Room City Hall - Waterloo, Iowa The Finance Committee of the City of Waterloo, Iowa, met in the Mayor ' s Con- ference Room in City Hall at 6 : 30 P .M. , on June 18, 1979 . Council Member Getty, Chairman, presiding. On roll call : Dowie, Getty, Roehr, Wilharm. Chaitiiian Getty called the meeting to order . Mayor Rooff pointed out that the salary schedule is on the agenda, requesting a 7% increase across the board, for non-union employees . Discussion followed in regard to paying department heads according to education and talent needed for their position, fitting job description with dollar amount, new employees working up to full pay, proposed salary schedule set up by Karl Hollingsworth with increases from 7% up to 14%, keeping with President' s guidelines of 7%, and also mentioned was a program set up 3 years ago, to get our city department head' s salary up level with other cities . Moved by Roehr, seconded by Wilharm that the Finance Committee recommended going with the 7% increase across the board for non-union employees . Motion carried. Chairman Getty informed the Committee of a request from the City Attorney' s Office to approve paying for the transcript from the public hearing on Pocket Billiards Lounge, before July 1, 1979 . Moved by Roehr, seconded by Dowie to pay for the transcript before July 1, 1979 . Motion carried. Water Pollution Control Plant Supervisor, Bruce Bottorff informed the Committee the difficulty in replacing the operation supervisor. Four people have turned down the salary of $13, 300 . He said it ' s not enough money for someone with a degree and experience in a competitive field. The Finance Committee referred this matter to the Mayor, for him to get together with Bruce and work something out . Mayor Rooff brought back the subject of the Police requesting dictaphone equip- ment, everything looked alright to him, they do have to have it, and it won ' t be billed till after July 1, 1979 . Approved. Police Chief Bemisdorfer brought up the request, which was on the agenda, about the FBI school that Kehoe will attend, and just wanted to inform the Committee that the request he take a city car is because the Police Department will have some evidence coming from there , and it would save money to just have Kehoe bring it with him.
