HomeMy WebLinkAbout05/14/1979 Fine Committee May +, 1979 Mayor 's Conference Room City Hall - Waterloo, Iowa The Finance Committee of the City of Waterloo, Iowa, met in the Mayor ' s Con- ference Room in City Hall at 6: 30 P .M. on May 14, 1979 . Council Member Getty, Chairman, presiding . On roll call, Present: Dowie, Getty, Roehr . Absent: Wilharm. Chairman Getty called the meeting to order and asked for any business . Police Chief Bemisdorfer discussed the difficulty of having the booking room on the main floor and the jail on the top floor. In handling disorderly prison- ers , it tends to get everyone upset. He would like to move the booking room upstairs with the jail, and asked to spend $200 for labor in the rewiring of the video tape machine, to set up the new booking system. Moved by Roehr, seconded by Dowie that Chief Bemisdorfer be authorized to make additional expenditures for the changes in the booking system. Motion carried. Garage Supt. Cunningham asked permission to repair the automatic transmission in a dump truck, a 75 model estimated repair to be $3, 000 . Discussed was the reliability and cost difference of either a rebuilt or new transmission. Cunningham said it would be cheaper to repair . Cunningham also mentioned road graders needing new gears . The gears that run the blade up and down have been strived, and estimated repair to be $400-$465, maybe more. Also street sweepers needing repair and waiting For parts from out of Davenport. Getty questioned whether this is from wear and tear or misuse? Cunningham replied mostly wear and tear. Chairman Getty said if this is something that has to be done, go ahead. Cunningham said there is an alternate of not having to fix the road grader and dump truck till June, and Chairman Getty replied either now or later it has to be done . Chairman Getty and the Finance Director Campbell discussed setting up a meeting with Ron Kittrell, from Parrott & Wood. There has been some difficulty and question as to the procedure used in ordering supplies with filling out forms . Discussed was a tremendous amount of expenditures adapting to his system, and the money we may save on one end, costs us in labor at the other. Chairman Getty said we will set up a meeting for next week at the Finance Committee to discuss this with Mr. Kittrell and Finance Dir. Campbell . Chairman Getty said next week' s meeting will begin at 6 : 15 P .M. Chairman Getty called for additional business , there was none, and called the meeting closed at 6 : 40 P .M.
