HomeMy WebLinkAbout03/11/1985 Economic Development Committee March 11 , 1985 - 5:30 p.m. Mayor's Conference Room Members present: Chairperson Penaluna, Getty, Seeber, Wright, Klinger and Mayor Bowers. The first item of discussion was a status report on attracting the Saturn Plant to Waterloo. Chairperson Penaluna indicated that because a specific location was being discussed, as well as its acquisition, that the committee should meet in Executive Session. City Attorney Dave Tyler indicated that an Executive Session for this purpose was authorized by Iowa Code Section 28A.5(j). It was moved by Getty, seconded by Mayor Bowers that the Committee meet in executive session. Ayes: Five. Motion carried. The Clerk was instructed to indicate that the following persons were present during the Executive Session: Randy Pilkington, Police Chief Roger Shook, City Attorney Dave Tyler, City Engineer Eric Thorson, Planning and Development Director Don Temeyer, Clerk/Auditor Larry P. Burger and Deputy Clerk/Auditor Michelle Temeyer. Klinger now present. EXECUTIVE SESSION It was moved by Getty, seconded by Seeber that the Committee adjourn the Executive Session. Motion carried. Councilperson Seeber indicated that a representative from Battle Creek, Michigan would be in Waterloo to discuss with us sources of funding that they have used in attracting companies to their town. The Committee would be informed of the date of this meeting. Clerk/Auditor Larry P. Burger was instructed to call the Iowa League of Municipalities to ascertain the status of the local option tax as it now being proposed before the Iowa legislature. The committee reviewed the proposed allocation of Community Development Block Grant Funds for Economic Development purposes. It was indicated that the City Council would be holding a hearing on the proposal at this evening's meeting. The following amounts were being proposed for economic development: Mini UDAG $50,000; Interest Write Down Program $50,000; WCFN Drive Improvements $90,000.
