Moved by Blitsch, seconded by Luce to approve the 6/23/06 Agenda as mailed. Motion carried.
Moved by Blitsch, seconded by Luce to approve the 5/31/06 Minutes as mailed. Motion carried.
IJNFINISHED BITSINESS
The Civil Service List for Golf Manager was presented for certification. The position was
approved by the Human Resources Committee on 3/20/06 and by the Civil Service Commission
on 4/7/06. There is a vacancy due to a resignation. The position was advertised in the Waterloo
Courier, listed with Iowa Workforce Development, notices sent to the agencies and organizations
on the Affirmative Action List, posted on the City website, the cable access channel and in all
City departments. Seventeen resumes were received and seven candidates were invited to
interview on 6/16/06. Interview panel members were Mark Rice from Central Garage, Bill
Bachman and Todd Derifield from Leisure Services and Cheryl Huddleston from Human
Resources. Three candidates did not pass the interview. The Civil Service List has four white
males.
Moved by Luce, seconded by Blitsch:
We, the members of the Civil Service Commission, certify the following list of applicants, who
are eligible, based upon the examination process as set forth by the Civil Service Commission for
the appointment to the position of Golf Manager for the City of Waterloo, Iowa Leisure Services
Department. Appointments shall be made from this list for the next year (June 23, 2006 — June
22, 2007).

Update,
Battalion Chief—decision made to hold off until early fall.
Police Sergeant — thirteen candidates took written exam 7/15/06; waiting for results; interviews
scheduled mid-July. �''
Clerk I—forty-two took written exam 6/6/06; twenty-seven invited to interview 6/18-20/06.
Park Maintenance II/Forestry—sixteen resumes received; seven invited to interview 7/6/06.
Associate Planner — nine resumes received to date; deadline of 6/30/06 with interviews to be
scheduled mid-late July.
Medical Officer — one resume received to date; deadline is 6/23/06. Brief discussion followed
on why there isn't much interest in this promotion. Chief Deberg says it is because the Medical
Officer must ride the ambulance out of the main station as well as perform the additional duties.
