OTHER RITSINESS Robert Stringer, Human Resources Director, reviewed a situation regarding Michael Devine, a candidate who is on the current Civil Service List for Police Recruit. Mr. Devine's wife is a sergeant on the Waterloo Police Department and hiring him presents potential conflict of interest in that his wife could supervise him. The Police Department currently has eighteen officers related by marriage and it is beginning to severely limit the ability to efficiently operate the department. The present list has seven active candidates. Two of these candidates have obtained other employment and one will be removed from the list because he has not responded to messages to contact the department regarding possible employment. That leaves only four potential candidates and there are currently five vacancies. This would leave Mr. Devine the last available candidate. Moved by Blitsch, seconded by Porter to approve the removal of Michael Devine's name from the current Civil Service List for Police Recruit. Motion carried. The Human Resources Department was directed to notify Mr. Devine of his removal. With no further business before the Commission, moved by Blitsch seconded by Porter to adjourn. Motion carried.
