Motion carried. 5/19/05 Minutes and 6/17/05 Minutes will need to be approved next meeting because there are not two commissioners in attendance who attended those meetings. I JNFINISHED RI JSINE SS The Civil Service List for Housing Partnership Coordinator was presented for certification. This is a new position that has been funded by Community Development, but worked under a contract with Operation Threshold. Community Development decided it needed better accountability and control so has made it a City position. The Human Resources Committee on 5/2/05 and the Civil Service Commission on 5/19/05 approved the position. The position was advertised in the Courier, posted on the City website and cable access channel, listed with Iowa Workforce Development, notices sent to the agencies and organizations on the Affirmative Action List and posted in all City departments. Nineteen resumes were received and five candidates were invited to interview on 6/29/05. Interview panel members were Nancy Gulick from Community Development, Ethel Washington from Waterloo Housing and Cheryl Huddleston from Human Resources. One candidate cancelled and one did not pass the interview. The list contains three white females. Moved by Blitsch, seconded by Porter: We, the members of the Civil Service Commission, certify the following list of applicants, who are eligible based upon the examination process as set forth by the Civil Service Commission for the appointment to the position of Housing Partnership Coordinator for the City of Waterloo, Iowa Community Planning & Development Department. Appointments shall be made from this list for the next year(July 8,2005—July 7, 2006). CERTIFIED LIST Darci Ritter Donna Lesyshen Sherry Jaeger Motion carried. 1 Tpdates Fire Recruit — 67 candidates are scheduled for the physical ability test on 7-12-13/05 at the Regional Training Center. This group includes three white females, 1 American Indian male and one Hispanic male. Those who pass will be interviewed 7/14-15, 18-20/05. Total score will be determined by giving 40% weight to the written exam and 60% weight to the oral interview. The Civil Service List will be a two-year list. Permit Writing Specialist/Building Inspections —new position appro ed by Human Resources 5/2/05 and Civil Service 5/19/05. Received 20 resumes and 6 candidates have been invited to interview on 7/21/05. Graphic Designer/Digital Arts Manager/Culture & Arts — new position approved by Human Resources 5/2/05 and Civil Service 5/19/05. Received 36 resumes and a preliminary review indicates about 1/3 meet the minimum qualifications and will be invited to interview. Interviews are tentatively scheduled for 7-26-27/05. NEW BIJSINESS None OTHER BIJSINESS Robert Stringer, Human Resources Director, reviewed a situation regarding a laid off Maintenance Electrician who will be given the opportunity to return to work to fill a vacancy due to a resignation. The plan is to send him a certified letter. He was laid off due to an OWI conviction, but has his driver's license back and is eligible to reapply for his CDL. The Insurance Committee will need to review insurability and he would need to pass a physical and drug test. If the employee does not respond to the letter or turns down the offer to return,he will be terminated. With no further business before the Commission, moved by Porter, seconded by Blitsch to adjourn. Motion carried. Nancy Eckert City Clerk
