Motion carried. Moved by Blitsch, seconded by Luce to approve the 3/16/05 Minutes as mailed. Motion carried. IJNFINISHED BIJSINESS The Civil Service List for Laboratory Services Foreman was presented for certification. There is a vacancy due to retirement of the Pretreatment/Laboratory Services Coordinator. The job duties of the position were realigned and the position was changed to a foreman position so the City would have more flexibility with job assignments. The position was posted internally as a promotion and one employee submitted a resume and was interviewed on 4/22/05 by Roseann Cory, retired Pretreatment/Laboratory Service Coordinator, Larry Smith, Assistant Waste Management Services Superintendent and Cheryl Huddleston, Human Resources Manager. The list contains one white male. Moved by Luce, seconded by Blitsch: We, the members of the Civil Service Commission, certify the following list of applicants, who are eligible based upon the examination process as set forth by the Civil Service Commission for the appointment to the position of Laboratory Services Foreman for the City of Waterloo, Iowa Waste Management Services Department. List shall exhaust upon appointment. CERTIFIED LIST Brian Bowman Motion carried. ITpdates Fire Recruit — the position was advertised in the Waterloo Courier, a recruitment day was held at the Regional Training Center with about 60 potential applicants in attendance, notices sent to fire schools throughout the Midwest, to the agencies and organizations on the Affirmative Action List, posted on the City website, on the cable access channel, in all City departments and three billboards in the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area. The testing process has not changed although there is an increased charge to $15.00 for candidates taking the written examination. The written examination is scheduled for 5/11/05. The top sixty scores will be invited to the physical ability test on 7/12-13/05. This is a very job-related test. Those who pass the physical ability test will be interviewed on 7/14-15, 18-20/05. A candidate's total score will be determined by giving 40% weight to the written examination and 60% weight to the interview. The resulting list will be a two-year list. We have received 151 resumes to date. NEW BIJSINESS The job description and testing criteria for Cable Television Production Coordinator — Clerk's Office/Telecommunications was presented for approval. There is a vacancy due to a resignation. The position will be advertised as an open position. Eligible candidates will need to have a BA or AA or at least college junior standing in broadcasting, mass communications, electronic media or related field and will be required to provide a sample of their work. Moved by Blitsch, seconded by Luce to approve the job description and testing criteria for Cable Television Production Coordinator. Motion carried. The job description and testing criteria for Instrumentation Control Technician — Waste Management Services was presented for approval. There is a vacancy due to a resignation. The position will be advertised as an open position. Eligible candidates must have an electrical license with the City of Waterloo or be able to obtain this license within the probation period. They must also have a minimum of seven years related experience. Moved by Blitsch, seconded by Luce to approve the job description and testing criteria for Instrumentation Control Technician.
