Members present: Tim Luce, John Blitsch.
Members absent: Lou Porter, Walter Reed(E Officio).
Also present: Ned DeBerg, Tom Powers, Tim Shea, Sandie Greco, Cheryl Huddleston.
Moved by Blitsch, seconded by Luce that the Agenda, as proposed, be approved. Ayes: Two.
Absent: Porter. Motion carried.
Moved by Blitsch, seconded by Luce that the Minutes of April 20, 2001, as proposed, be
approved. Ayes: Two. Absent: Porter. Motion carried.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
The Civil Service List for Waste Services Technician was presented for certification. This is the
final step in the reorganization of Sanitation and Water Pollution/Flood Control Departments.
As part of the reorganization, seven Solid Waste Operator positions were eliminated and the new
Waste Services Technician position was created. The Waste Services Technician position will
be a backup for Solid Waste Operator and will also work with neighborhood cleanups, sewer
maintenance, assist with code enforcement and assist with mechanical operations at the pollution
control plant. The position was posted as a promotional in all city departments. Sue Vaughn,
Larry Smith and Cheryl Huddleston were on the interview panel. Moved by Luce, seconded by
Blitsch:
We, the members of the Civil Service Commission, certify the following list of applicants, who
are eligible, based upon the examination process as set forth by the Civil Services Commission,
for the appointment to the position of Waste Services Technician for the City of Waterloo Waste
Management Services Department. Appointments shall be made from this list for the next two
years (May 8, 2001 - May 7, 2003).

The Civil Service List for Sewer Maintenance Worker was presented. There are currently three
vacancies. Gary Luck, Larry Smith and Cheryl Huddleston were on the interview panel. Moved
by Luce, seconded by Blitsch:
We, the members of the Civil Service Commission, certify the following list of applicants, who
are eligible, based upon the examination process as set forth by the Civil Services Commission,
for the appointment to the position of Sewer Maintenance Worker for the City of Waterloo
Waste Management Services Department. Appointments shall be made from this list for the next
two years (May 8, 2001 -May 7, 2003).

This is an open examination for Leisure Services. This position is on hold due to the hiring
freeze.
Park Maintenance II- Leisure Services
This is a promotional examination for Leisure Services. This position is on hold due to the
freeze on promotions.
Cable TV Production Assistant- City Clerk
This is an open examination for the City Clerk Department. This position is on hold due to the
hiring freeze.
Facility Maintenance Assistant- Mayor
This is an open examination for the Mayor. This position is on hold due to the hiring freeze.
Instrument Control Technician - Waste Management Services
This is an open examination for Waste Management Services. This position is on hold due to the
hiring freeze.
Traffic Engineer- Traffic Operations
This is an open examination for Traffic Operations. This position will be advertised this week.
With no further business before the commission, it was moved by Blitsch, seconded by Luce that
the meeting be adjourned at 9:31 a.m. Ayes: Two. Absent: Porter. Motion carried.
