July 16, 1981
Chairperson Braun called the meeting to order.
Members Present: Braun, Eibey, Randall , Furgerson
Other Present: Jim Rodemeyer, Vic Kennedy, Attorney for the Commission, Larry P.
Burger, Clerk of the Commission.
Motion by Randall to approve the minutes of the June 18, 1981 meeting. Seconded by
Eibey. Motion carried.
Rodemeyer gave an update on the police recruitment process to be conducted on August
18, 1981. Rodemeyer continued on the procedures that are to be followed and the time
frame that is set for the test.
Kennedy stated that he did not feel the Police Chief should be allowed to participate
in the actual questioning of the applicants, but only should be allowed to sit in on
the interviews.
Braun questioned the other members of the Commission whether they felt there should
be an official action from the Commission expressing their sympathy to the families
of the two slain police Officers. Discussion followed.
It was the general concensus of the Commission that sympathy would be expressed
through individual communications.
Discussion followed on the resignation of Ross Randall from the Civil Service
Commission. Randall stated that he has very much enjoyed serving with the Commission
and would continue to serve until the Mayor selected a replacement for him.
Braun expressed the Commission's appreciation of the fine job Randall has done and
stated her regrets of losing him as a Commission member.
Rodemeyer presented the Commission with a new scoring sheet that the support staff
recommends be used in oral interviews with Police recruits.
Braun suggested that a space be placed on the sheet to record time of the
interviews.
Motion by Randall to set the next meeting date as Thursday, September 3, 1981, 4:00
P.M. in the Mayor's Conference Room of City Hall , Waterloo, Iowa. Seconded by Eibey.
Motion carried.
Motion by Randall to adjourn meeting at 4:55 P.M. Seconded by Eibey. Motion
carried.
