Chairman Braun called the meeting to order.
Members present : Eibey, Randall , Braun and Furgerson
Others present : Roger Mogle, Jim Rodemeyer, Michelle Temeyer , Vic Kennedy,
Attorney for Commission, Junior Grimm, Larry P. Burger,
Clerk of the Commission
Motion by Randall to approve the minutes of December 18 , 1980 , Civil Service
Commission meeting. Seconded by Eibey. Motion carried.
Jim Rodemeyer reported that the Firefighters recruitment exam is scheduled
for 6 : 30 P.M. , Friday, February 6, 1981 . Rodemeyer continued that the exam
will take approximately 22 hours and that Personnel has given out 275
applications .
Rodemeyer continued that the physical qualification test is scheduled on
Saturday, February 7 , 1981 , 9 : 00 A.M. at East Waterloo High School . The
test will probably run all day.
Vic Kennedy stated that the hearing took place to quash the temporary injun-
ction to stop the promotional exam in the Police Department. Kennedy conti-
nued that the date of the trial that relates to the temporary injunction
has been set for April 9 , 1981, at 7 : 00 A.M.
Vic Kennedy reported that he is presently monitoring the petition filed by
Margaret A. Girsch against the City of Waterloo . Kennedy continued that he
has notified our insurance carrier in conjunction with possible damages .
Kennedy stated that he has not yet answered the petition, but will within
the twenty days allowed.
Kennedy brought the Commission up-to-date on the history involved in requiring
City personnel to live in the corporate limits of Waterloo.
Discussion followed regarding the above City policy.
Burger reported that he had attended the Fire Pension Board meeting and it
was the decision of the Pension Board not to send John Weires back to Iowa
City for evaluation until he takes advantage of the fire' s fa6ilities -to
redevelop his physical strength and abilities .
Discussion followed regarding John Weires and it was a general concensus
of the Commission to agree with the decision of the Fire Pension Board.
Braun called for any additional business ; there was none.
Motion by Eibey to adjourn. Seconded by Randall . Motion carried.
