We will not be requesting certification of Grants Manager; this item will be moved to "Updates. " Under "New Business" has been added a discussion regarding changes in the Civil Service law, specifically Commission appointments. Moved by Blitsch, seconded by Culp to approve the Agenda for December 19, 1997 as amended. Motion carried. Moved by Blitsch, seconded by Culp to approve the Minutes for September 26, 1997 and November 21 , 1997 as mailed. Motion carried. UNFINISHED BUSINESS The Civil Service List for Maintenance I-Recreation Commission was presented for certification. There is a vacancy due to a transfer. The job description and testing criteria were approved by the Commission in September. The position was advertised in the Courier, listed with Job Service, posted in all departments, and a notice sent to the agencies and organizations on the Affirmative Action list. Twenty-two resumes were received and sixteen candidates were invited to interview on November 20-21 , 1997 by a panel comprised of Chris Dolan, Mark Gallagher, and Cheryl Huddleston. Ten candidates either canceled or did not show for their interview. This large number of cancellations is probably due in part because this position does not pay as well as other maintenance positions with the City. One candidate did not pass the interview. Moved by Blitsch, seconded by Culp: We, the members of the Civil Service Commission, certify the following list of applicant(s) , who are eligible based upon the examination process as set forth by the Civil Service Commission for the appointment to the position of Maintenance I for the City of Waterloo, Iowa Recreation Commission. Appointments shall be made from this list for the next year (December 19, 1997 - December 18, 1998) .
