HomeMy WebLinkAbout12/17/1990 A\ CIVIL SERVICE MINUTES 4: 15 p.m. December 17, 1990 First Floor Conference Room Members present: Dave Juon, Bonetta Culp, John Murphy, Betty Jean Furgerson Others present: John Meyer, Rick Tagtow, Jim Rodemeyer, Cheryl Huddleston The Agenda for December 17, 1990 and the Minutes of October 30, 1990 were approved as mailed. UNFINISHED BUSINESS The Civil Service List for Park Maintenance II-Construction was presented for certification. The position was posted internally as a promotional and eight resumes were received. Oral interviews were held December 6, 1990 with a panel composed of Paul Huting, Gary McDonald, and Cheryl Huddleston. One candidate did not pass the oral interview. Moved my Murphy, seconded by Culp: We, the members of the Civil Service Commission, certify the following list of applicants, who are eligible based upon the examination process as set forth by the Civil Service Commission for the appointment to the position of Park Maintenance II- Construction for the City of Waterloo, Iowa. Appointments shall be made from this list for the next two years (December 17, 1990 - December 16, 1992) . CERTIFIED LIST Joel Jensen Darrell Niedert Allen Craft Larry Smith Scott Schmit Harris Ceaser Scott Allender Motion carried. Jim Rodemeyer provided updates on the following positions: Part time Clerk I-Police Department--the decision has been made not to proceed with this position. The front counter in the Police Department will be closed weekends and holidays and a telephone will provide direct access to the Watch Commander or designee for those citizens needing help. Records will be kept regarding volume of service and type of service and a review will be made of its effectiveness. Secretary-Transportation Department--this position was approved by Civil Service previously but the job description has been revised by taking out the written examination. The typing speed required should limit the number of candidates qualified to interview. We will probably not fill the position until after the budget process. NEW BUSINESS The revised job description and testing criteria for Secretary- Transportation Department was presented for review. Moved by Culp, seconded by Murphy to approve the revised job description and testing criteria for Secretary-Transportation Department. Motion carried.
