The agenda of the August 21, 1990 meeting was approved as mailed.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
The Civil Service List for Solid Waste Operator was presented for
certification. This position is a result of the reorganization
of the Sanitation Department which combined the job
classifications of Refuse Drive and Refuse Collector.
Forty-three resumes were received and 33 candidates were invited
to interview. Oral interviews were held on August 15 & 17, 1990
with a panel composed of Jim Knavel, Paul Huting, and Cheryl
Huddleston. One candidate cancelled his interview and there were
four no shows. The first list is composed of 4 black males and
6 white males. The second list is composed of 2 black males and
8 white males. It is anticipated that 3-5 candidates will be
hired from the first list. Moved by Culp, seconded by Juon:
We, the members of the Civil Service Commission, certify the
following list of applicants, who are eligible based upon the
examination process as set forth by the Civil Service Commission
for the appointment to the position of Solid Waste Operator for
the City of Waterloo, Iowa. Appointments shall be made from this
list for the next year (August 21, 1990 - August 20, 1991) .

The Civil Service List for Associate Engineer was presented for
certification. Extensive advertising was done and 10 resumes
were received. Six candidates were invited to interview and 4
candidates actually were interviewed by a panel composed of Bill
Ratekin, Dennis Gentz, and Cheryl Huddleston. Moved by Culp,

We, the members of the Civil Service Commission, certify the
following list of applicants, who are eligible based upon the
examination process as set forth by the Civil Service Commission
for the appointment to the position of Associate Engineer for the
City of Waterloo, Iowa. Appointments shall be made from this
list for the next year (August 21, 1990 - August 20, 1991) .

NEW BUSINESS
The job description and testing criteria for Code Enforcement
Officer was presented for review. This is a new position that
has been approved by the Human Resources Committee and will be
funded through increased revenues in the Building Inspection
Department. This person will be responsible for a variety of
enforcement activities and, because of the large amount of
interaction with the public and other agencies, communication
skills have been stressed. Moved by Culp, seconded by Juon to
approve the job description and testing criteria for Code
Enforcement Officer. Motion carried.
The next Civil Service Meeting is tentatively scheduled for
September 25, 1990 at 4:00 p.m.
With no further business the meeting was adjourned at 4: 23 p.m.
