The Agenda for the July 17, 1990 meeting was approved ' as amended. UNFINISHED BUSINESS The Civil Service List for Fire Fighter was presented for certification. The position was advertised in the Courier, with Job Service, the Affirmative Action listings, and several other locations in the area with a deadline date of March 26, 1990. Two hundred thirty-two resumes were received and one hundred twenty-three applicants appeared for the written examination held on April 11, 1990. Forty-seven candidates were invited to the physical agility examination. Thirty-five candidates appeared for this test on May 19, 1990, the results of which were subsequently invalidated because of test administrator. error. The physical agility test was administered again on June 18-15, 1990 and oral interviews were held on June 18-20, 1990 with a panel composed of Frank Magsamen, Greg Ferguson, and Cheryl Huddleston. The first list contains the names of one black female and one black male. • 'Plans 'are 'to begin a 'new `recruit '' i class in September. As many as nine fire fighter recruits may be hired from this list. Moved by Culp, seconded by Juon: We, the members of the Civil Service Commission, certify the following list of applicants, who are eligible based upon the examination process as set forth by the Civil Service Commission for the appointment to the position of Fire Fighter for the . City of Waterloo, Iowa. Appointments shall be made from this list for the next year (July 17, 1990 - July 16, 1991) . Civil Service Commission July 17, 1990 Page 2 NEW BUSINESS The job description and testing criteria for Engineering Technician was presented for review. This is a new position budgeted because of the additional work caused by the pavement management program and subdivision inspection work. Moved by Culp, seconded by Juon to approve the job description and testing criteria for Engineering Technician-Engineering Department. Motion carried. OTHER BUSINESS Jim Rodemeyer reported on the retitling of the position of Civilian Jailer to Police Property/Evidence Technician. The position of Civilian Jailer is covered by the Teamsters contract and a collateral duty of the Civilian Jailer has been to work in the evidence/property room. With the recent closing of the City jail, the decision has been made to retitle the job in line with the job duties. A new job description is being developed. The next meeting of the Civil Service Commission was tentatively scheduled for August 14, 1990 at 4:00 p.m. With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 4:25 p.m. Larry P.
