TAIII1+ X) loNvNla • Finance Committee Minutes October 21 , 1985 6:30 p.m. Mayor's Conference Roan Members present: Chairperson Dowie, Klinger. Members absent: Getty. The agenda was approved as proposed. John Desmond, United Way Executive Director, asked for the City's financial participation in a computerized, centralized information and referral center which is now being studiedby the Cedar Valley United Way. He reported that there are approximately 36 agencies in the metropolitan area with information referral services. The central information and referral center would serve to unite these agencies and provide centralized information to clients. A budget of $60,000 has been proposed for the first year. The first $30,000 of this budget will be supplied by the State of Iowa as announced by Governor Terry Branstad on October 8, 1985. The remaining $30,000 must be raised locally. Other contributors to the referral agency include Black Hawk County United Way, City of Cedar Falls, United Auto Workers, Black Hawk County Union Council, Junior League, Waterloo Chamber of Commerce and Cedar Falls Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Desmond indicated that the advisory committee to the agency would consist of two (2) City representatives. It was noved by Klinger, seconded by Getty that the Finance Committee recommend to the full Council that $6,600 be allocated from the City's contingency fund for the City's share of this program. Motion carried. It was moved by Klinger, seconded by Dowie that the Police Department be given authorization to seek bids on a copy machine lease. Motion carried. Bids were reviewed from 3-D INV. , Inc. and Denny's Shooter's Supply, Inc. , for ammunition for the Police Department. It was moved by Klinger, seconded by Dowie that the recommendation of the Police Department be approved. Motion carried. It was moved by Klinger, seconded by Dowie that the bills be recommended to the Council for approval. Ayes: Klinger. Abstentions: Dowie (possible conflict of interest). Motion carried.
